Aliens Get Gold Record –or– Are they listening to Chuck Berry yet?

"I heard on NPR's Weekend Edition Sunday that it was 30 years ago that NASA sent Vger Voyager 2 into space with the music of Louis Armstrong, Chuck Berry, Beethoven, Bach, and a wide selection of world music. The disc that also contained images of Earth, and the sounds of whales, a baby crying, and waves breaking on a shore. The NASA scientists must have felt sound was one of the best ways to communicate human experience of the 20th century to intelligent life in the distant future.

"The gold-plated, 12-inch copper disc was an all-analog recording, probably because that was the only way to ensure the aliens would be able to play the thing 40,000 years from now. That's NASA's estimate for when the Vger Voyager 2 will be far enough from Earth to encounter another planetary system. The interstellar probe is traveling at 38,000 miles an hour, and as of March this year Vger Voyager 2 was 7.68 billion miles from Earth. So sure, it's more than a few years out of warranty, but Vger Voyager 2 is still sending scientific information back to us."

There's always the chance that Aliens will understand the necessity of NOT destroying an ecosystem for profit or personal gain. After all they probably don't have a widely-published book telling them that God made the planet for them to use up as they wish.

Actually, they're already here and have integrated in large numbers. A couple of weeks ago there was a news item about a Roswell witness who, on his death bed, spilled the beans about the cover-up.

I don't know about you, but I've met several folks over my lifetime whom I've suspected as not having been naturally born to two garden-variety Earthlings.

(I probably shouldn't be letting them know that I know by way of an Intergallactic forum, but then they most likely have known about me for a LONG time.)

Well... it's about time someone put arrogant humanity in it's place. It would be like paying back a HUGE karmic debt established over decades, nay, centuries of abuse.

Although I thought the remake of "The Day The Earth Stood Still" was a total waste of time, the basic premise was right on target.

Maybe we could convince them just to eat rich republicans. Most of them look pretty plump and juicy.
