Jaguar - Fiercest Cat of the Americas A muscular and compact species, the jaguar weighs anywhere between 79 and 350 pounds (36 and 160 kilograms); with a length between 3.9 and 6.4 feet (1.2 and 1.95 meters). This makes the jaguar the third largest cat in the world (behind the lion and the tiger), and the largest cat in the western hemisphere. Believed to have originally evolved in Asia before crossing over into North America via the Bering land-bridge, the stealthy cat of the Americas has a current range that includes Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica (particularly on the Osa Peninsula), Ecuador, French Guiana, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, the Southern United States and Venezuela. However, its population in the United States has greatly decreased in recent years as a result of hunting and habitat loss. The jaguar prefers to live in dense rainforests, but can survive an any number of different habitats, although it usually will stay in those that include bodies of water (the jaguar is actually a very gifted swimmer).

Not those dogs, anyway They're diggers, too. Also, it's a rental so the poor guy is going to have a lot of work making it right. The dogs do have a cozy yard, shelter, water, food etc etc so they'd be fine if they just would stay put!

Hope they do just that.

Glad you are there to steer their dogs back homeward...Sure be sad to lose one because he can't make his fence dog proof.

I don't know the owner but she's a gundog breed so I assume it's something instinctive, whether he hunts her or not.

Agree about the roaming around thing. Poor guy is on the road a lot and the dogs are bored. That's all I know. If he asked we'd certainly go down and visit them (we sort of do anyway since we're always taking the dogs home), but they cry a lot once they're back in their yard. I just hope his situation (which I know nothing about really) resolves nicely so that his dogs have a little more companionship.

Pretty slick. Wonder where she learned that? It seems like a stalking behavior, but where the heck does a dog learn something like that?

Could be dangerous if she's out in the street though. If you couldn't see her like that, a driver certainly wouldn't either.

So last night Chester started barking up a lung so I went to the door to hush him and see what was out there at 3 a.m. I opened the screen door and the dog from down the street was out. They're new to the neighborhood and altho their fence is 8' high, the dogs are smart and destructive and big enough to either unlatch the gates or chew a board off and wriggle out. So anyway the female was out. She's about 75 pounds, some sort of English Setter, predominantly white with large patches of black and smaller black blobs here and there. As she was walking down the sidewalk across the street, I knew it was her and could see her clearly under the street light. What was amazing was how, as soon as she sensed I was there, she turned 90° to face me, stood perfectly still... and disappeared. I literally could not see her and thought for a minute I must have blinked and not seen her move on. I walked a few steps toward her until I could resolve her outline better and she didn't flinch but I could see her eyes staring right back at me. She's friendly but I told her to go home and she flinched a bit then. But didn't move. So as an experiment I backed into the house and shut the screen door, still no motion. There weren't any lights on in my house, just the street light in the next yard. She didn't move until my head was behind the wall, out of sight. I quickly looked back out, silently, and she had turned and started trotting toward home. But thru the screen she knew I'd spotted her and again she turned and faced me and froze and again I literally could not see her, her markings just made her blend into the grass and bushes and shadows behind her. That she used that camo so well, and turned to minimize her profile was really cool to see.
