I feel for all you guys. Looks miserable. We just got our weather station back online, but I think I'll wait a few days before posting a link.

Listened to an interview with the mayor of Dawson in the Yukon territory on CBC radio yesterday morning. Quite amusing actually.
Forecast to drop to -49C (-56F ) tonight.
The day before yesterday I worked on the solar powered Christmas lights with my bare hands. It was -22C (-7.6F) and dry. Hands were fine. I must be adapting....

The most pronounced beetle kill (AFAIK) was in the scenic corridors where they had a century of fire suppression. As the trees were thinned and meadows opened up, the bear population has exploded. Correlation/Causation I know but the whole ecosystem has changed.

Yeah, it used to hit -40 every few years, and for extended periods every decade or two.
The ski hill I patrol at used to be old growth lodgepole, with 7 or 8 slashes mowed in the trees for people to ski on. In the last 30 years, over 90% of those trees have gone away, so that you can't even see the old runs and no one skis on them anyway because the creek drainages are more fun. It's opened our "skiable terrain" up by like 1000% without really expanding the area. âall due to beetle kill.
