Yeah, it is nice to hear pop that rises above the norm.  But for Washington, the EP version is better than the full production one IMO.

Oh yeah.  I did mention BMX, right?  This makes me smile, maybe because adults on BMX just look goofy.

So, Australian streaming radio (to supplement, not replace RP).

The main youth radio station is Triple J. We love music! Maybe too much rap for the RP crowd. I mostly listen on car trips.

The link also contains links to Double J - the stream for people who listened to Triple J when they were growing up, and to Triple J Unearthed - dedicated to unsigned bands.

There are some other listener supported stations in Melbourne but I don't get them here.  I don't exactly live back of beyond but the population density drops rapidly outside the major cities.

I'll listen to that later... got the beer and cooking going here, don't want to interrupt it. But I was just talking the other day about Australia's astounding per capita output of great music. I probably won't ever have enough loose change to get down there and just take it in, but I'd be in hog heaven. Back in the 80s I was on a pretty serious Aussie alternative kick and there was a store in San Francisco that fed my habit pretty lucratively and I just gave up... every time I'd think I had a good collection, a whole 'nother batch of bands would bubble up...

I told this story before but hey, I'm old so I get to tell stories more than once twice. Short version is I had ordered up a CD of proto-new-wave-alt-something rock from I Forget The Label and it arrived as I was about to drive to the hospital where my daughter had been born... so I'm listening to that and hop out of the car a couple hours later, walk in and spot Deniz Tek's photo on the wall... he's an ER doc there. Okay that's not such a reach since he's originally from Michigan but still, that was weird.

Cool. Sometimes we forget the ritual significance of telling stories. Repetition is the essence of the oral tradition.

I decided it was worth moving this over to its own topic.  I added New Zealand to add buoyancy to the raft and because hey, they aren't so bad over there.

i'd like to ask you for a favor, really your opinion

are there any interesting artists or radio from that part of the world that you might share

for years i've listened to a little alt/college radio both there and nz

i have discovered the little bushmen, fat freddy's drop, the blackseeds, etc.

any help and direction/discovery would be much appreciated

thanky thanky

My current favourite is Jinja Safari:  Earnest optimistic world music from BMX boys.  Oh to be young again (knowing what I know now of course)
