It's one of those things that came up but didn't make it into the release.

You can get around it though with  chromecasts screen mirroring  feature.
Just mirror the phone   while playing from cache.

First I would like to say thank you for this app, it is fantastic! We use the app on a Android tv box for home listening with a USB output to a Emotiva XDA-2 DAC and the flac stream sounds fantastic on our stereo system. We have an old monitor connected so we can watch the slideshow.

The one problem we have is when first starting the system in the morning the USB audio does not work. It seems to be a issue with waking up or initializing the USB audio out. The workaround I have found is to open an app called USB audio player pro, it wakes up the USB audio out and acquires the DAC connection. I then shut it down and open RP app. Once  it is running it will stay connected until the system is shut down and then I need to go through the procedure again. I have tried re-plugging the USB cord and just about every other option I can think of but it seems it needs a software solution.

Would it be possible to have the RP app check for USB audio option on startup?

The reason why we prefer the android app is because of our spotty internet. The option to buffer ahead prevents skipping and drop outs.

TIA
Gerry

The download issue is probably routing issues with the cache server.   You'll  find the connection more reliable during  certain times of the day.   We'll be trying to improve that.

Regarding the song info changes, that will probably get an overhaul at some point.   And the old version  is not  recommended as it will  stop working  in the near future.   It was the last RP app still using an older  system for managing song files that will be phased out.

So, I just checked my phone and saw that after initial 12 hour block and aforementioned cache download issue I currently have 29 hours of music already downloaded and 769 songs on download pending. At the moment I will not resume download as 29 hours is more than enough for now, and also I do not want to overflow memory on my phone. Therefore, I gather that there was some kind of glitch but the download went on although I got notification mentioned in my previous comment. Maybe it is something worth looking in.

One other thing I really dislike is the new Song Info feature. Namely, in the previous app, when I downloaded cache block and listened to music offline I could see lyrics, song comment etc. Now when I listen cache block music offline when I click on the song all I get is the basic text info (artist, song name, album title, and rating). I hope this is some kind of temporary issue and that you will try to solve the problem and make song info and comments visible in offline mode as before. If not I would once again strongly urge you to make previous version of RP app available for download.

Cache block issue still persists (can't make separate blocks). What's more, there is another issue with it: after I downloaded one block I tried to download another one but it can not be done (I get a notification on my phone to "Stop Filling Cache" which never happened before, and afterwards there is an additional notification  on RP's  app homepage which reads "Download error: connection timed out" although my internet connection is fine, so I guess that it might be a temporary thing with RP server in Europe). I'll keep my eye on this and will inform about it in the days to come.

This is a kudos post! I'm not going to ask for anything, I swear. (well, maybe one thing...)

I have always loved RP and enjoyed the simplicity of the last version of the Android app. That said, I did want a couple things changed. I wanted to be able to listen to the other fine radio feeds that were available on the website. I also wanted to choose whether or not the screen stayed on when the app was active.

I am absolutely thrilled that both those concerns have been addressed. In the process, the app has retained its simple and intuitive interface. It took a bit for me to figure out how to "go live" (Sync), which was my only concern with the new app. I'm now quite happy!

So what do I want? Please have the app open to the Bill & Rebecca desert picture as it did before! They are Radio Paradise, so they should be front and center, both in the app and in our minds while using it.

Thank you again!

I've started a new topic for bluetooth metadata since it has and will be be an ongoing issue for years.  There are a few  things people have found that can help.
Will try to get some info for that organized.
https://radioparadise.com/comm...

Regarding the music app list,  I'm not sure how it  is generating that.   But  my hunch is  it is just the apps that  are registered to play digital audio files,  that shouldn't have any affect on metadata support.

Changes in the new versions:
- fixes offline blocks failing to download after connectivity issues.
- fixes memory leak requiring app restart on some devices.
- fixes dpad navigation issues on older versions of Android TV.
- added option to disable the slideshow in landscape orientation.
- added screen options to override the screen off behavior.

I'm no coder, but it seems like it would be easy enough to add the option in the App Settings to allow for keeping the screen on when the app is open. If not in the app itself, but adding the option in the Notifications section once the app is downloaded. Just like how each phone allows you to turn Notifications on and off, the same could be done for keeping the screen on by checking a box.

Are there any plans to fix the app from not letting the phone go into sleep mode? That's been my main complaint, how the phone screen no longer stays on when the app is on. I can turn the phone sideways and it will play the slideshow and stay on, but other than giving the song and artist name in faint white letters, barely visible on the screen, it shows nothing else. I really enjoyed glancing at my phone to see which artist was playing, the album cover, whether I had already rated the song, etc.

Maybe I'm the only one missing this feature, but it was a big part of the appeal of listening to RP for me.

You are not alone. I've posted a comment about a few bugs 4 days ago - sleep mode issue also mentioned - but still no answer from jarro. Updated app today, photo slideshow still appears although I've unchecked Slideshow option.

Thanks Jarro!

Something has changed! :-)

I still see "resume download" but underneath those lines it says now:

([>] RP Main Mix @ Med (64k)  [bin]

Whoop! Whoop! I'm not trying it now (avoiding the risk in resetting the cache) but once in flight I will! It is now the London to Sydney flight though...

The work around is to fill that buffer to the max tomorrow :- )
