Stay safe over there Miami.... better you than us We got some groceries (snacks, canned meats, veggies and fruit, granola bars, beer, wine, vodka) and then went in search of propane and D batteries. Went to 2 Walgreens, 2 7-Elevens, Lowe's, Home Depot, U-Haul and none to be found.

islander wrote:It's one of the out islands in the Bahama chain (the joke is they are out of everything, but they are really just the further out from the mainland). It is very remote and has limited services. The lee side is like a big harbor and very shallow for a long way, so you get some beautiful waters. We've stayed at a place called Bennett Harbor a couple of times and it is amazing. Perfect turquoise water, soft white sand, very few other people. The locals are friendly, and it's a perfect place to relax. You have to bring a lot of your food though (there's not a lot of variety on the island). You can get fresh fish and lobster easily. There is a cool little restaurant called the cookie house, but if you want dinner you stop in at about noon and discuss options with them - atypical conversation is something like this: Us: We'd like to come by for dinner. Them: Okay, what you want? Us: Do you have a menu? Them: No. Us: uh... what can we have? Them: You like fish? You want Conch? Us: Sure. Them: Okay, see you later. They then retreat to the back, we exchange glances of "what the hell?". But we came back that evening and they had a fantastic dinner all set up for us. Some other people came in while we were there and asked about dinner, they were asked to "come back tomorrow, not enough food left tonight". Here's an aerial pic of Bennett Harbor: It's really that blue. Fresh Bahamian conch salad ...

Hope you do well. Looks bad, real bad north of you all the way up to and past Jax. Went to school at FIT in Melbourne way way back when. It looks like the Banana River will turn into a bay when this is over and the Cape will, well it ain't gonna be pretty. Powerful prayers for those who are gonna have to deal with this.

Hope the impact is minor.
yep a couple of years ago i stayed on grand bahama very close to the projected eye strike they've got some newer construction with multi-strories (casinos, hotels, etc.) i hope this storm loses strength and peters out sooner rather than later
