They shut down the schools in Los Angeles, San Diego and Riverside county school districts here in California.
My wife who works within the Riverside county district is happy for a break.

Foreign tests and foreign masks...
With the United States struggling to meet coronavirus testing demands, China, which appears to have made progress managing the outbreak, has tried to become a resource for other nations.

On Friday, the Jack Ma Foundation and Alibaba Foundation said they would donate 500,000 testing kits and one million masks to the United States to help it deal with the pandemic. Alibaba is China’s biggest online retailer, and Mr. Ma is the company’s co-founder and former executive chairman.

“Drawing from my own country’s experience, speedy and accurate testing and adequate personal protective equipment for medical professionals are most effective in preventing the spread of the virus,” Mr. Ma said in a statement.

Mr. Ma said that the two foundations had, in recent weeks, also donated similar resources to Japan, Korea, Italy, Iran and Spain.

offee Robot at SFO.  Must have a credit card to use it.  The wife is currently on a 3 plus hour layover before she gets on the next leg to home.  She says the place is deserted.  It was pretty busy on the way out 10 days earlier.  The plane from Santa Ana to SF was pretty much empty.  On a UAL plane both ways.  The lady who pushed her wheelchair to the next gate said that overall traffic has gone way, way down.

Overall she says she feels safe and from what she could tell, everything was being kept pretty clean.  Hope so because she goes back out a week from Saturday.

BTW, in doing some searching for her return flight on Southwest this time, there are plenty of $66 flights from CLE to LAX coming up at the end of the month and though at least April

There's a company in Austin called 'Briggo' with a similar machine. You order on your smartphone then go pick it up. First installation was on the Dell campus, it was wildly successful. There's one in the Austin airport too, not sure if there's any others.

I've also heard about a smoothie-making robot, but it may only be in development.

We're supposed to go to Italy end of April. Who knows what things will look like by then.

The most immediate felt economic impact from people on the ground perspective is the entertainment industry and all of the jobs associated with them.  This includes sports, music and public performances of all kinds.  I have friends in the music industry and they are not happy, but it is a tight wire of caution and economic impact of people's livelihoods that we must walk.   Quite frankly it is a lose lose scenario and I would not want to be one of those that have to make such decisions.  I am most definitely blessed to have a job that I could work from home if need be, but my heart goes out to those that are not as fortunate.

The roach coaches that came to my place in So. City/Brisbane used to rotate. They all got their coffee from the same urn but one lady, we'll call her Tuesday, kept her truck cleaner and her coffee was amazing. All the other guys you could tell just gave the steel urns a rinse and let the funk build up and their coffee always tasted like day-old folger's.

What lifesavers those trucks were, in those industrial parks with nothing else around.

That is being pissy and nothing else.  CNN and MSNBC were calling it just that when it was first getting to be a real problem back in January.  I have seen many clips of the usual suspects using that very name.  They were also calling Trump both racist and xenophobic for implementing the China travel ban then, too.   Now they, like you and most others are using it as an excuse to bash Trump.  It was OK then, now it's not.

WTF do you want ?  Do we go back and change the name of the Hong Kong Flu ?  Give me a break.  Find another reason to be outraged by Trump.  There are plenty of real ones.

And FWIW, I was one of the first people in the US to get the Hong Kong Flu in the middle of September 1968 at age 15.  It knocked me out of school for a month.  It morphed into pneumonia IIRC.   I never did return to school in California as we were moving to Philly in November.  The wife went around and signed me out of all of my classes for me.  Broke her heart.

I've also had measles, mumps and chicken pox.  There were not any vaccines for that stuff way back then.  I lived through them, just like most others back then did, too.

I'm always going to call it the Hong Kong Flu.  So I guess you have yet another reason to call me racist and xenophobic.

{#Rolleyes}

You're reading wayyy more into it than I said. Calling it the Venice Flu would have had the same effect: It's happening someplace else.

Can dogs contract or spread coronavirus?

Dogs can contract certain types of coronaviruses, such as the canine respiratory coronavirus, but this specific novel coronavirus, aka COVID-19, is believed to not be a threat to dogs.

The World Health Organization reported that there have been no reported cases of coronavirus in domestic animals. “At present, there is no evidence that companion animals/pets such as dogs or cats can be infected with the novel coronavirus COVID-19,” their report says.

There are several promising drugs that are approved for "other" things that may help with Covid-19, but the biggest hurdle for everything in the US right now is testing.  The drugs work MUCH better as an inhibitor, so early detection is key.  Right now, you need to show deathbed signs or be famous to get a test early enough (in the US) to consider options.

There has been some success in treating this virus with plasma therapy.  Blood plasma with antibodies has been taken from survivors and then infused into those sick with the virus with great results.  One patient's plasma is able to treat three others.  Much like things were done back in the stone age before antibiotics.  This is how we were able to treat Ebola recently IIRC.

I have no link as I heard it from a doctor on a FNC program a day or two ago.

I'd read something about that yesterday I think - I don't remember where.  I believe it is being developed by a Japanese pharmaceutical company.  There were apparently favorable, anecdotal findings, but nothing published yet.
