My 2¢ FWIW ...
Trump went and opened his mouth about running in 2024, and in the process energized democrats to turn out. Then he went and trashed DeSantis which pissed of a lot of repubs. I think things would have turned out better if he had kept his mouth shut completely about 2024 until after the election and left DeSantis alone.
Trump is making one thing clear. He is in it for himself and not for the overall good of the repub party. This will likely be his undoing. He cannot share the spotlight for the benefit of the greater good. While his policies are worthy he is demonstrating the need to look beyond him for someone else to continue what he started. In my mind DeSantis was the logical choice to take things to the next level if Trump faltered. Too early to tell but I'm thinking that Trump just might tear the party apart beyond repair in time for 2024 if he doesn't reign himself in. It would be wise for him to get out of the way and just play king maker and lift everyone else up instead of running again. His quest for revenge will be his and the party's undoing.
Kurt... generally agree, but a few thoughts....
- I think Trump's run in 2024 is more about putting the justice department and the courts in the position of having to prosecute a candidate for President. Not a good look. His announcement was more about the rest of the month than so far...with depositions on the horizon. He now has the unexpected issue of losing control of the party, and threatening the guy who Fox News is already promoting for '24. There are no good options for him... it's a matter of finding the "less bad" ones.
- Trump has always and forever been about Trump. The "good of anyone else"(business partners, voters, the party) has never been a factor.
- When you say DeSantis will "take it to the next level"... is that up or down? :)
You're 100% right that Trump will burn down the place before he allows himself to be seen as weak or a loser. In the end...maybe... the reality that he will lose if he runs might keep him home.

Not Ted Budd, though he ran for a spot currently held by a Republican.
He backed over 300 candidates. He had many wins in races that weren't really up for grabs but lost some of the most critical races...races he campaigned for.
Losing endorsed Senate candidates
Mehmet Oz, in Pennsylvania. A choice so bad that he is blaming Hannity and Melania for it!
Don Bolducâdefeated in New Hampshire by Sen. Maggie Hassan.
Leora Levyâdefeated in Connecticut by Richard Blumenthal.
Gerald Malloyâdefeated in Vermont by Peter Welch.
Also of note - Hershel Walker should have walked all over Warnock (like Kemp did for Gov.)... but Trump's personal pick AGAIN puts the Senate at risk.
Losing endorsed House of Representatives candidates
Bo Hinesâdefeated in North Carolina's District 13 by Wiley Nickel.
Steve Chabotâdefeated in Ohio's District 1 by Greg Landsman.
Madison Gesiotto Gilbertâdefeated in Ohio's District 13 by Emilia Sykes.
John Gibbsâdefeated in Michigan District 3 by Hillary Scholten.
Yesli Vegaâdefeated in Virginia's District 7 by Abigail Spanberger.
Karoline Leavittâdefeated in New Hampshire's District 1 by Rep. Chris Pappas.
J.R. Majewskiâdefeated in Ohio's District 9 by Marcy Kaptur.
Sandy Smithâdefeated in North Carolina's District 1 by Don Davis.
Losing endorsed gubernatorial candidates
Tudor Dixonâlost to Governor Gretchen Whitmer in Michigan.
Doug Mastrianoâlost to Josh Shapiro in Pennsylvania.
Lee Zeldinâlost to Governor Kathy Hochul in New York.
Dan Coxâlost to Wes Moore in Maryland.
Geoff Diehlâlost to Maura Healey in Massachusetts.
Tim Michelsâlost to Governor Tony Evers in Wisconsin.
Darren Baileyâlost to Governor J.B. Pritzker in Illinois.
Scott Jensenâlost in Minnesota to Governor Tim Walz.
Mark Ronchettiâlost in New Mexico to Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham.
Also of note: Brad Raffensperger won despite Trumps aggression against him for not finding 11,821 votes in 2020.
He still has Kari Lake to cheer for...but all in all it was a terrible night for the Republican party, and Trump's endorsement proved more harmful than helpful. The radical right can get you through the primary, but the general election punished election deniers...HARD!

I always here "his policies are worthy". What are his policies that are worthy ? MAGA isn't a policy. It's a bumper sticker.
