Anyone going to the effort to follow (and then possibly hurt) someone with a private plane doesn't need Twitter.  Lemme show you...

Go to this page:  https://globe.adsbexchange.com...  That's Elon's plane.  The data on the left is either the plane's current location in the air...or a bunch  of blanks.  You can also see that Elon has registered in the LADD program to limit data being shared, but you can't hide the plane when it's in the air for safety reasons.

Every plane in the US is listed.  Click on the yellow X on the top of the left panel (next to No Callsign), and you'll see every plane in the air right now. If you look to the right, you'll see the number change every second or two as planes land and take off.

The plane tracking issue for Elon is a year old.  @ElonsJet is the Twitter account that initially pissed off Elon before he owned Twitter.  It was set up by a 19-year-old who was banging on this database and automatically posting when the plane went on and off the system.  It's actually an impressive bit of coding for a kid.

It's not doxing when someone shares publicly available data.  Reporters who care to comment on Musks movements are not doxing him.  If you read Elon's post on the ElonsJet banned account page now, he freely admits that he's removing links to databases with the data.  It's information from somewhere else.  Of the reporters he banned, only one had made a comment about Elon's location.

Elon is using it as an excuse to stop journalists critical of him from posting on Twitter.  He's also blocking links to other platforms, so people can't post their criticism elsewhere and provide a link (ie all Mastodon db links have been blocked).

Talk about hypocrisy.  You went all "government conspiracy theory to block free speech" regarding the Biden's, but now line up for a leader spewing lies in violation of your sacred principles.

DL #, SSN, home address, phone number, etc.) is shared (usually online) without permission.  His plane's location is public information.  It can't be doxing if it's public, but it sure sounds bad.  The kid in FL simply wrote a script to look for the filing of his flight plans (every min or two), and then automatically generated a tweet with the data.  No reporting...just a little coding to scrape public data and re-post it.  Fly commercial or borrow someone else's plane...and nobody will know.

Elon has been trying to get the kids posting his location removed from Twitter for a while.  The kid tried to extort a Model 3 from Elon earlier in the year and made the kid's account explode with followers (Elon, meet Barbra Streisand).  In November after taking over, he reiterated he's all about free speech. Well...maybe not.

Since he's gone full-on conspiracy wonk, apparently the risks are just too great to not act.   Now that he's the Right's rich uncle, it's criminal what all of those crazy MSM reporters are out there saying.  It's complete BS.

I don't get your point. Are you being sarcastic? What risk is it knowing where his plane is, or actually was a couple of hours ago? And what do the reporters have to do with it?

My understanding is that the reporters weren't doxxing musk but some were reporting on accounts that provided information on where his jet was located. Nevermind that those accounts apparently agreed to a delay in reporting the jet's location so there was nothing real time about it. Some of the other journalists were not reporting on that but were reporting on other aspects of musk's business.

You are correct that I didn't mind trump being banned from twitter for inciting insurrection, although I wouldn't say I cheered loudly. There is a bit of a difference between traitorous acts and making someone look bad by reporting on what they are doing. And "the other side" wasn't cut off from twitter. There are still plenty of ultra-right congress people and conspiracy nuts tweeting.

This is where all you woke progressives will learn that what you can do to others may be done to you. A weakness in progressive thinking is that they will stay in power and control of all their tools and don't believe that they can be taken away and untoward activities can be exposed in that process. Twitter was one of the biggest tools in the progressive tool box.

Interesting to see what rattles around in your brain and spills out without much thought behind it.  The information that kcar posted (that you responded to) did not have any editorialization added by kcar to even prompt your response. It's called information sharing. Apparently, it hit a nerve with you though?

Twitter was the biggest tool in Trump's tool-box... until he stepped on his own d*ck... and then it wasn't. Trump f*cked up and then had to pay the price. I wasn't doing backflips that he was thrown off Twitter but left to wonder why it took a failed insurrection for Twitter to finally wake up to the danger he posed all along.  That decision was something that even you can understand.

FYI, Musk seems to be rather unhinged and can ban whoever he wants for whatever reason. Seems like you may be unhappy that I (and others) are not unhappy/outraged by that move as it doesn't fit your tit-for-tat narrative.

Also curious to know how many of Trump’s bitchin’ NFTs you have bought?

Agree the difference between the filthiest and just merely filthy rich is immaterial.  I do think that becoming the richest person alive can mess with your head a bit, especially when you're socially awkward to begin with.  He has 4 jobs that most people would kill for, and yet spends an inordinate amount of time on social media now.  He's become addicted to the immediacy of the feedback loop and his ability to keep his name circulating.  Over time, those who tire of the banter start to fall away, so he ups the ante and goes darker, deeper.

He was the dog that caught the car when he was forced to buy Twitter.  Instead of letting go, he's determined to eat the car, even if it's unhealthy and tastes horrible.
