Ivanka trump is about the only person they could have nominated that Beaker and the assorted minions would be happy with. Even then they would say it was just because she was a woman.

A Vibe Shift Won’t Save Gaza
Kamala Harris must move from words to deeds to stop Israel’s war crimes.

Harris skipped the primary process. She was installed as the nominee by a few powerful people within the Democratic Party.
Since then, she has refused to do interviews or answer any questions. You don’t need to be a Trump supporter to believe that’s wrong & bad for the country.

Walz is not that well known and Trump and his campaign will try to define him negatively as a radical socialist. I think they will have trouble doing that. He is a former teacher and football coach, a hunter and fisherman, and he served in the Army National Guard. It is very early, but I think he comes off as straight forward and folksy but tough. I caught part of his rally speech earlier and he knows how to campaign and how to deliver lines. He seems genuine. Again, early, but I think that Midwestern vibe will help in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. He also has experience: 12 years in Congress and two terms as a governor, experience Vance lacks.

I think he provides good balance to Harris. It may prove to be a good choice.

"Weird" may be Dems' new favorite word to attack Donald Trump and JD Vance, but Tim Walz has *been* using it.

In 2023 he told us: “There’s no such thing (as a generic Republican). These guys are weird. Once they start running, their weirdness shows up."

I thought the Dems should have an open convention... they anointed Harris.

I thought she should pick Shapiro... she didn't

I'm beginning to think I was wrong.

Walz is an interesting political animal.  He has every service and community box checked, seems good on his feet, and has a sense of humor.  The Vance "get up off the couch to debate" joke was very clever.

The polls now have Harris nudging ahead.  I think she's going to get a bump from this week, and then a strong convention with serious people will kick things up again.  I wouldn't be surprised if Trump is several points down on the national polling by September 1, with several of the swing states still very tight.

I never really like Kamala in 2020, but she and Walz bring an energy to the POTUS discussion that hasn't really existed since Obama (who I didn't vote for).  The Dem energy is from middle-aged, intelligent, personable folks who believe things aren't bad, but they could be better.  It's a perspective, and the "this place sucks and is going down the toilet" fear mongering just doesn't align with the experiences of most Americans.  Yes, prices are high.  Crime is always a problem. Immigration needs reform.  The government is inefficient and the debt is too high... but we need to fix these things...not destroy them and see if we can find something better once everything is gone.

The Trump grievance and conspiracy tour is tired. He's gone from the younger candidate to very old, in 5 weeks.  His VP choice was an absolute gift to the left.

Walz made a comment about Harris that was true for the 12,000 people in the audience... they was a sense of joy and excitement that hasn't been around for about 12 years.  It was oddly comforting to hear 3 people (including Shapiro) give motivational speeches about what's possible... not about what went wrong and who's to blame.

Last thought... if there was ever proof that the campaign process is too long, it's this year.  The beneficiaries of the spending (TV, printers, hotels, convention halls, restaurants in Iowa) all want running for President to be a full time job. It's a complete waste of time.

From what I'm reading, she was set on Shapiro long ago, while Hillary's pick was Walz.  Then Fetterman 2.0 came along and expressed his own experience with Shapiro - that he's too conservative. (!) And always a self-promoter.  Oh - and that Shapiro was pro-Israel was not playing well with many Dems either. No sense out there that the leaked vid was a deliberate misdirection.
