A Play:5 has an input and can be used in place of your computer speakers. This can be used as a source for streaming around the house - but is only seen as an input by Sonos when the plug is inserted. If you want to stream music from the computer you can share libraries via Media Player/MediaMonkey, although I have had local firewall issues to resolve before this worked reliably, and large collections can make it choke. A Connect can be used to stream music from an external source (iPod, HiFi etc).

Hi, I'm from London. I can find RP in the Sonos app via TuneIn, and even though it shows the station as playing, there's no sound. Same issue if I add it via streaming link. Occasionally, the 'Now Playing' song is correct.
I have no issue with other stations from the US. Any thoughts?

Works fine for me in the UK - I just selected RP from TuneIn. Occasionally I have had problems when it starts breaking up and stops, so I restart (reselect RP from  radio stations) and it kicks in again. I don't see why RP should be any different to any other station for you. PM me if you want dig deeper technically - I'm in IT...

PSD is supported in the RP app. Sonos just carries streams, so no, PSD will not be available on Sonos for a long time. Now if Sonos became a true network appliance with a full OS (it currently runs some kind of squashed Linux), then you'd have something.

+1 on the Sonos though ... I can always just reach over, hit "play", and the last thing played (which is almost always RP) comes up in about 1.5 seconds.

And while we are at it, wouldn't the rating functionality be great too.  How else am I going to keep track of all these songs?

For YouTube, we just use Airplay on our MacBooks to view videos on our TV via the Apple TV.

The only things I can't seem to get to play on our Sonos Connect are the Ogg Vorbis RP streams. Has anybody had any luck? If so, please share which link you use.

I went ahead and bought the Sonos Connect about a month or so ago. It plugged right into our present home theater system from Bose. Setup was easy with the app for the Mac, and controlling it is just as easy with that app or the ones on my iPhone and iPad. We can once again stream Sirius XM, plus Pandora, RP, and a number of other music sources we listen to.

If the Bose system ever dies, and it is now 12 years old, so it might some day, I will just replace it with the Sonos Bar and a couple of the wireless speakers, plus sub. Before that, though, we might add a Play-1 that we can take out on the patio with us.

I'm really sold on this system.

SiriusXM lists about 8 or 10 supported devices, including Sonos and Grace Digital. I guess there might be a chance that Logitech will update the firmware in the Squeezebox to again stream Sirius, but since they no longer even sell the Squeezebox, I'm not holding my breath.

Alison's former boss installed a Sonos in the store. I think all the speakers in the place were wireless Sonos speakers. They can control it from the POS computer, and he can control it from his iPhone as well. It streams Pandora, SiriusXM, RP, Spotify, and pretty much any other internet stream you could imagine.

We currently feed the Squeezebox into a 12 year old Bose Lifestyle 30 home theater audio system, but I think I could replace the entire thing with a Sonos and some wireless speakers.

i think the big advantage with sonos is the customization/control options with it's own "intranet"

flexibility to expand as desired and different music in different rooms/locations etc.

definitely good stuff

This is bad to hear. I was considering buying a Sonos to replace our Logitech Squeezebox Touch, which is about to lose it's ability to stream SiriusXM.  Can anybody shed insight on this guy's problems playing RP on the Sonos? Because if I can't listen to RP on it, I don't want one, and will have to keep looking for a suitable replacement for the Squeezebox.

I have a friend that can still use theirs, so I'm thinking it's isolated to my configuration.  I'll be contacting Sonos customer support.

I hope it works out for you. Have you considered sending a PM to BillG, or posting this in Bug Reports? Perhaps Bill can offer a suggestion as to how to get it playing on your device again.

Wow, this topic hasn't been brought up in a while.  For years I enjoyed RP on my Sonos, but recently lost the ability to listen to RP streams in Sonos using TuneIn - the NOW PLAYING Sonos dialog just says "connecting..." and then times out after about 30-60 seconds with "Unable to play the selected item.", then "Unable to play 'Radio Paradise' - unable to connect to TuneIn".  {#Frown}  As far as I can tell, this is the only avenue to listen to RP in Sonos.  Is anyone else having a similar issue or know of a solution?  Does TuneIn now require a login or registration process?
