This news about Pence shakes up my list. I'd have to put Cruz first, because while hellaciously obnoxious he has government experience as Senator (pathetically little experience, and serving as likely the most loathed man in Congress) and as Solicitor General of TX. Cruz is better informed about the world than Trump. His ego isn't as unmanageable as Trump's and he has more restraint than Donald. Cruz wouldn't be likely to cause an international crisis or disaster; Trump is. 

Cruz and Pence also strike me as more aware that politicians have to work within a network of other politicians. I don't think Trump understands how much cheerleading, negotiating, horse-trading and unselfish leading a President has to do. Trump will have a very difficult time putting Trump after other people and causes. He's already claiming that he won't have to give up control of  his businesses while serving as President. He's in for a nasty shock there.

I suspect you wanted a diminished, more accountable government via Johnson. Unfortunately, you got Donnie. At a personal level, that's like waking into a parallel universe where you're a teenager stuck in a small town you hate, working the graveyard shift at a minimum wage job for the a-hole bully stuck in his high school glory days. In terms of a government, the Trump administration is going to feature a lot of bad decisions, corruption, economic troubles and lack of accountability. I know you have kids, so something like global warming has to concern you. Trump's already waffling on that but he's likely going to be a disaster on that issue.
