This is the campaign of a PG-rated cartoon character running for president, interrupting a string of insults the rest of us abandoned in the seventh grade only long enough to resume a concurrent string of half-crazed boasts: We’re gonna start winning again! We’re gonna build an eleventy-billion-foot-high wall! We’re not gonna pay a lot for this muffler!
All this coarseness is largely masking the truth that the Trump campaign is entirely about coarseness. Take away the unmappable comb-over and the unstoppable mouth and the Freudian-rich debates about genitalia, and there is no Trump campaign. Donald Trump’s few forays into actual issues suggest he is startlingly unaware of how the presidency or even ordinary governance works.
I think if Trump were truly courageous he would legally rename himself "Genitalia Supreme".

Wow, the hardships he's willing to endure to strike a blow for civil discourse in politics!
In earlier times and discussions, you railed against ends-justify-the-means policies. In this context, your support of Trump appears to be based on just that.
Yes, see my reply to Lazy8 3 pages back. Haven't changed my ideals on that, yet it no longer applies in today's world. Now that ideal is seen as obstructionist and as angry old white man.
Who is advocating that today ? Absolutely no one except the neocon poseurs of the #no trump group who only give it lip service because it suits their immediate needs, but in doing so is hypocritical. They sold out long ago.
Got to play with the hand that is dealt. I still haven't decided if I'm going to do any campaign work this year like I did for Romney, which regardless of the outcome, was a great learning experience.

Inconsistency and hypocrisy are the new Trump normal.

Just to be clear, I do not admire Trump in any way shape or form. I see him as an opportunity to change the way things are done, that is to change the SOP. We, this country, have reached the point were we are at a Mexican Standoff within the two sides of the established power structure that controls this country. Something has to give. The only two I see capable are Sanders and Trump. HRC is the status quo. If the choice is between HRC and Trump, its a slam dunk. Bernie and Trump, I'd have to think about it and see how it would unfold. Either one of those two is a train wreck in DC waiting to happen and that is what I am voting for.

I saw this when he first spewed it, if you can afford to live in an apartment like that in the first place and move at will without regard to financial hardship then you need to just keep your yap shut imo. Olbermann is as an elitist, arrogant, blowhard prick as Trump. He can move out and out of the country to the Riveria or wherever wealthy, arrogant pricks live for all I care.

Can't be bothered to even glance at it. Reminds me of the sad types who are convinced that the Mafia's/the Cubans'/LBJ's conspiracy to kill JFK will soon be exposed.
Dude, you're ignoring the chemtrails and the faked moon landing and the illuminati and what happened at Roswell and all the other stuff they don't want you to know. WAKE UP SHEEPLE!

Thanks for clarifying things. Thought you were a strong Trump supporter!
I know that feeling about looking for a train wreck: that was the only consolation for me when GW Bush got re-elected in '04. (Wow, seems like yesterday). I (and a lot of my friends) thought, "Well, George is bound to screw up again and then he really sink the Republican ship..."
Obama was supposed to be the game-changer, the president who was going to unite Republicans and Democrats and usher in a new path for Washington. Sadly, that didn't happen.
I don't if a train wreck is going to change things. You'd have thought that 9/11 or the Great Recession would have jolted both sides to work together, but no. I hope we don't have a train wreck, actually. A lot of people haven't recovered from the '08 downturn.
It's possible that Trump's nomination will force the Republican leadership to re-assess things. So many of them were openly hostile towards him, but now they apparently feel compelled to fall in line behind him. They must know that this could turn into a huge catastrophe for them. The let the nomination process get completely away from them.
I'm sure a lot of Democratic leaders would like to move past Hillary. She has a lot of baggage, doesn't inspire young people and is in some ways a return to the past. I think she's quite capable and extremely experienced but a lot of Democratic friends aren't excited about her. I think that's where Bernie's support comes from. Steely_D wrote:

Feel free to express how you feel about HRC as a potential president. Call her whatever you want. Again, she's been smeared so many times that it's just not very interesting anymore.
?? No apologies necessary, kurtster. You have a right to express your views just like the rest of us. If you want to refer to HRC as Hillary the Hag or Crooked Hillary, that's fine by me.
"My only point is how we all are discussing the candidates not how the media or the candidates themselves discuss each other."
I think there are at least two types of posts in this discussion thread:
1. Posts that refer to or repeat the media on the candidate or the campaigns.
2. Posts that discuss the candidates' personalities and policies. Mostly these stick to Trump.
The first kind of posts don't interest me very much. My eyes glaze over when I see rotekz post a link to a poll or piece on Trump. I don't care about the hype or all the trees in the forest. I care about how qualified the candidates are and what their policies would do if they were elected president.
I am interested in the bottom line. I want a competent president. I do not want another 9/11, needless war in the Middle East or near-total meltdown of our economy.
I see in Trump the very worst of America. He is a non-stop liar, a narcissist, a demagogue and a totally unprepared fool. I look at newspaper articles about the man and the more responsible ones only politely hint that the guy doesn't know what he's talking about. More people need to throw Trump's abuse back at him, to insult him and pigeonhole him.
You may admire the man and his candidacy. I don't. I see an incredibly obnoxious, arrogant and dangerously uninformed blowhard. "Douchebag Don" sums him up perfectly.
Trump smears and labels people All The Time. He completely deserves an insulting nickname. He should wear "Douchebag Don" like a heavily used toilet seat around his neck for the rest of his life.

I was thinking "Gong Show Don" because the guy is so full of himself that he'd likely get gonged off the show in short time if he weren't The Donald.
Sideshow Don isn't bad. Freakshow Don is closer to the harsh reality.
The way I see it, Trump is primarily selling himself. Other GOP candidates were talking about putting up a wall, standing up to China, but Trump stood out because of his outsize personality. I don't think Trump's supporters aren't focused on his policy promises as much as they like his rude swagger.
But Trump reminds me of a seriously messed-up, hate-filled kid I knew in junior high. The same bragging, bigotry, bullying, etc. etc. That kid epitomized the slang word "douchebag" popular at that age.
Actually, that kid used to embody that word. The 70 year-old man behaving like a seriously messed-up 13 year-old now wears the crown.
Too many replies to address on the matter. My only point is how we all are discussing the candidates not how the media or the candidates themselves discuss each other. I do see a difference between Douchebag Donald and Trump is a bully or Trump is a con artist. But that's just me. So with that in mind I hope no one ever gets upset if I start out a statement with Hillary the Hag did this or said that ...
Pardon me for even bringing it up.
Well the difference is that it's your candidate who's made a trademark out of attaching negative adjectives to his opponents (lyin' Ted, little Mario, crooked Hillary) and you're not saying there's anything wrong with that. I do agree that Douchebag isn't a good adjective, but it doesn't really say anything about Trump that resonates, though. Game Show Donald is how I think of him. Don the Con works. Sideshow Don was already used, although that was way back in 2011, and evidently Zuckerman knew that having Trump do well would sell more papers so that was the last we saw of that one.
This just in: "Vulgar Olive Loaf Donald Trump*" doesn't really work long-term, but maybe "Doesn't Really Give a Shit Donald" would work because it's basically his motto already: Donald Trump Doesn't Know Shit About the Bay Area
But Trump's proven the effectiveness of tagging an opponent with a negative adjective so look for that to be S.O.P. from now on.

According to Segal and other social-justice advocates who keep tabs on racist groups and hate speech, the jingoism of Trump's presidential campaign has fueled this sort of harassment. Trump's xenophobic and Islamophobic rhetoric and policy proposals have resonated with the rebellious, belligerent, flag-waving alt-right.
Targeting Jews? Does this mean you are actually starting to support the Donald? Looks like you have something in common with him after all!
I see Douchebag Don and it makes me wonder if I can start calling Clinton and Sanders names, too.
How about that old bitty Hillary, or Hillary the Hag, or that bitch Hillary, or Sanders the old bastid or Blind Bernie or ...
Seems fair to me, but I won't cuz its pretty repulsive, across the board. But its what you guys do.
Carry on.
Ummm, yea-aah...
Kurtster, what do you think Trump has been doing FOR YEARS to people he's decided to dislike?
Do you not remember all the crap and names he's spewed out recently? Little Marco. Lyin' Ted. Jeb's got low energy. Who would vote for a woman who had a face like Carly Fiorina. Crooked Hillary. Crazy Bernie.
Trump was the one who raced downwards to get to the sewer. This is no longer an election. It's a semi-reality-based Freak Show.
And people are not supposed to come up with names for Trump? Somehow everyone else shouldn't stoop to Don's level?
BTW, the entire GOP has been assassinating Hillary Clinton's character for DECADES. All the rumors that Hillary had Vince Foster murdered, that she was a closet lesbian, that she and Bill were trying to cover up felonies related to Whitewater, that she was directly responsible for Benghazi... blah blah blah.
But Trump? Trump can lie, contradict himself, get outraged when the Washington Post CORRECTLY noted that he hadn't turned over donations to Vietnam vet charities, display a total lack of understanding about current events, repeatedly behave like a world-class jackass but doesn't drop that much in the polls only because people are entertained by his buffoonery.
Trump reminds me of Charlie Sheen, when Charlie was tweeting "Winning!" and behaving like he was king of the world. Oh, but gee: Charlie had AIDS, had put women at risk of getting AIDS and was doling out huge sums to keep blackmailers quiet. He'd also become radioactive in Hollywood. Not exactly winning, was he?
Trump is the same buffoon, waiting for a comeuppance.
Come up with all the names you want. We're already in the sewer. Hillary's already been smeared over and over. It's time for Trump's bullshit to catch up with him.
So it's okay for a presidential contender to say Lyin' Ted, Little (dick) Mario, Crooked Hillary etc etc. but you're holding us to a higher standard? That's pretty much the definition of bass-ackward.
I'm speaking about us here at RP. I guess you can use any excuses you want.
C'ya
Then I misunderstand. We're talking about Trump, not each other, and how it's not right that he's insulting and using schoolyard insults while he wants to be President of the United States.
Here's the link to the video for those of you that want to watch him say Lyin' Ted, etc. This is NOT Presidential behavior, at least in the America that wants to be great again.
