I have thought about burning a Bowie best of but when I try to whittle them down I give up, like on "Ziggy Stardust" I would do them all except one and of the 10 from "Lodger" I'd have go with 6 of them,
so I just put 3 or 5 Bowie cd's in the player at a time 

A good friend is getting married so I am making some mix CDs for him as a wedding gift.  I usually don't do one artist mixes but he is a huge Stones fan so there is no risk in this one.  The challenge was to cull my absolute favorite Stones tunes to fit on one CD, this was proven to be made even more difficult knowing their songs are generally pretty long.  Turns out I could only fit 17, but this is what I came up with.  They are in no particular order however I do like to finish strong so I usually put songs I like best towards the end.  From 9 on are my absolute personal favs.  I could easily do another CD of songs I love, but these made the final cut:

I just visited the Rock & Roll Hall of Shame last week and they had a Stones Exhibit that covered 2 floors. You got to see all kinds of good photos, memorabilia, live footage from the beginning to the present. Must see for any Stones fan.

Ironical for a band that once was rock 'n' roll because they looked unashamedly young. Time is on their side.

And as for ZedZedTop, well I "grew up" with Eliminator, mid teens when that came out, so with all that beer and riffs and beer and stuff, well it was kind of inevitable. Learnt to love the back catalogue.
 
Oh yeah, the Stones. Saw them at Wembley on the Urban Jungle tour. We bagged some seats up in the stands, but then took advantage of the philistines by heading down onto the pitch whilst the support were playing - I'm pretty sure it was Doves, but very much ready to be wrong. Anyhoo, were close enough to feel the heat at the start of Sympathy For The Devil.

The Rolling Stones - "Charlie is my Darling - Ireland 1965"



This disc just came out last week but I recorded it from a showing that was on the Audience channel. A must for Stones fans it is more of a documentary than a concert video. Shot in 1965 at two concerts in Ireland (at the time Satisfaction was #1) it is the original group in all its young glory. Taken from film shot for a documentary that never really materialized it is very well restored and constructed. The concert footage is very good for the time but this was when it was more important just to see the band, not necessarily listen to them. Hundreds of screaming girls in the background and just a basic sound system. Scenes of young fans storming the stage and the guys actually having to fight them off themselves, no Hells Angels security then.



But the movie is still very good. Just seeing Keith Richards as a youngster, with muscle under his skin, is worth it. And of course Brian Jones is there. And all the interviews with the band members, at the beginning of their long journey into fame, are great to see. And seeing them do Beatles songs in their dressing rooms was neat.



I am not a die hard Stones fan, probably have 5-6 of their albums from over the years, but really enjoyed this and will pick up on disc. If you are not a fan of the Stones you may not be interested but it is definitely an important period of rock history.

I have never been to a Stones concert. In 1981 a scalper rolled into the gas station I was working at and offered tickets at half price. The show had already started. I was a starving college student (besides being at work until 11) so I had to turn him down.

The very next day I was in an autocross at the stadium parking lot. The course workers arrived at first light to lay out the track, and the stadium crew was still dealing with the trash from the concert. There was no way they were going to get rid of it all by race time so they bulldozed it into piles and they laid the course out around them.

It was a long time ago, but I remember some of these heaps were taller than the course workers so they had to position themselves where the scorers could see them waving flags. It was an interesting event.

94 at the rose bowl.  I had a decent seat halfway to the stage down on the floor.  Between the chilli peppers set and the stones going on, I wandered back towards the back stage area, and as I was making my way back to my seat, the lights went down...and i happened to be right on the stage's edge, so I made a quick left down the front row, to the center and eased myself into the third row.  Stood there for the first half or so, before they did Memory Motel and everyone sat down, leaving me standing out, with no seat.  Top 10 concert in my book.
