Absofruitly.  If you get the chance to see JJ, then rundothat.  I've seen the band a few times now, and they always leave you wanting more.  On top of that, Hairfarmer's buddy Art was a super-nice guy (he's the slick-domed fella on sax).

MAZAMA! (my favorite place to hike and camp! right before Winthrop) very beautiful drive and the Blues festival is absolutely spectacular fun.....

Ten Years After? Canned Heat? Big Brother & Holding Company????
oh I wants to go to this really bad this year!!!!  thank you G for the post and reminder!

Another link for the Winthrop Blues Festival this weekend

And another for Woodstock at Winthrop, August 21st and 22nd (Friday/Saturday)

The drive up there was absolutely beautiful, and we would love to attend either of the festivals, but I think we may have to wait until next year.  The Blues concert this year is the 22nd annual concert, so there will probably be another next year, but since the Woodstock concert is a 40th anniversary thing, it might not repeat.  If you go, let us know how it was.

Winthrop, about 1/3 of the total downdown - way up in the Cascade Mountains in north-central Washington.  How my son found it to recommend to us I'll never know:
Winthrop - about 1/3 of the total downtown

Very touristy, and very cute.  Considering that it's about a thousand miles from anywhere, it was amazingly busy.
The next two are indoor shots of posters where the flash either over or under-worked {#Rolleyes} :

Next weekend, The Winthrop Rhythm and Blues Festival

August 21-23, 2009 - Woodstock, 40 years later - remember any of these guys?  They must be almost as old as me. {#Roflol}

Winthrop is on Highway 20, about 1/2 way between Anacortes and Spokane, a beautiful drive no matter from which direction you come.  If I hadn't just got home, you know I'd be there.

DYLAN in PROFILE...
Philadelphia, Electric Factory 080808

Bob faced stage right for the entire show and only played keyboards but he did take some solid leads. He did not play guitar at all although he played harmonica on three songs.

Same band as past few years except for guitars. They are real tight but I can't help but think a different format would have been more effective... Bob in a chair with an acoustic guitar, a couple of female backup singers and a light acoustic backing band. This band was rocking but the guitar players, Stu Kimball and Denny Freeman, were a bit harsher than I remember Larry Campbell and Charlie Sexton being and, although very competent, some tone changes would have been welcome. Some of the acoustic issues might have been the venue's fault and where we were sitting too. I bet it sounded way better up front.

There's no denying that, for his age, Bob is still a dynamic song and dance man. Still belts out the vocals, still jams and still loves to be on stage. I noticed that the cadence of many tunes was altered to a very similar choppy blues and i think that helped him sing them... This great review from a June 4 show in Finland isn't called So Into Blues for nothin'.

My kids (14 and 8) loved it although the language barrier started getting old for them eventually. We were upstairs and the crowd was great! I've probably seen Dylan at least ten times... always different, always entertaining, always Dylan. I am glad my kids and I got to see him at the Electric Factory and– although the aural experience could have been better – I liked the venue and would like to see more rockin' (less audibly critical) shows there.

Here's the 080808 Electric Factory setlist:

Cats in the Well
Lay Lady Lay
Levys Gonna Break
Moonlight
Tangled up in Blue
Things Have Changed
Spirit on the Water
Honest with Me
Beyond the Horizon
It's Alright Ma
Trying to Get to Heaven
Highway 61
Nettie moore
Summer Days
Ballad of a Thin Man

(cool keyboard jam from Bob)

After the set the stage lights all went out and when they came back on the band was shoulder to shoulder in the front of the stage... three grays suits on each side of Bob in black. The rest of the band stood stock still while Bob pantomimed some boxing moves – it was great. Read the above linked
review for a better description of this moment.
