I'm sure glad I've got that $500(20 years ago plus accessories) bike out in the garage that wasn't touched all summer(baseball season). {#Lol}

well, there's always bed-shaped. A bed-shaped bike would be more functional IMHO.

Have you ever tried triangular wheels?  They're the bomb.

I think they have inflatable tires - isn't that a valve stem on the front wheel?  Presumably the wheels could be made in many different shapes.

I know all about fixed-gear bikes but it's kind of an anomaly for that vintage; certainly not stock, correct? Raleigh offered a track bike to the general public in the 70s but it's not road-worthy... however I'm sure the Campy hardware could be switched over pretty easily. My nephew rides a fixed-gear but he does cyclo-cross.

No, not stock.  I went into Bloomfield Bike Shop (still in business, thank God) on summer break from college one year and asked if they could do me a road frame fixie with brakes.  They produced this modified Viscount Aerospace Pro (no doubt they had an older model sitting around unsold) when I went back a week later, and I was sold.

You're right, track bike frames are not suitable for the road.

Damn yes! I missed that entirely, I was too busy writing him off as a Williamsburg hipster, what with his Brooks contraceptive saddle and fixey gear.

And he gets extra points for original colouring. My H16 was 187** - damn, I can't remember, but she was venerable, and she'd been resprayed.

And had an awfull lot of work done on her undersides. Gawds bless microballoons and epoxy resins.

It's a 1982 Hobie 16.  At least that's what the serial number indicates, although the sail set that came with it was 1981 Boomer (Rainbow main to match the decal/side stripe, Yellow jib to match the hull) Sail No 8865 i think?

Recently acquired a much older H16, circa 1971, serial number 768, sail number 145.  Blue hulls and blue/white striped sails.

My wife can personally confirm that a Brooks leather saddle does not effectively lower your sperm count.  And it's very comfortable once you've broken it in (the saddle, I mean).
