Half the fun of living here is to see what ridiculous shit our fellow Floridians pull next. Why live in a boring state.
Edit - and I see I was late to the dance on this.... LOL
Florida ranks dead last when it comes to rating the best states in the nation. Michigan ranks No. 1, the very best state in the union.
Let that sink in for awhile. Michigan, the state that gave us the Motor City Madman, Ted Nugent and Kid Rock (the poor man’s Ted Nugent), is 49 states better than Florida.
Thrillist’s Definitive and Final Ranking of All 50 States list ranked the states “based on everything.” Specifically, the states’ contributions to America, like inventions, food and drink, “somewhat productive famous people,” and unique physical beauty, among other things.

Last year, the guerrilla filmmaker traversed Interstate 4 and stopped in places like Cocoa Beach, Clearwater, Inverness, and Ocala with a four-person crew. With no agenda in mind, he simply asked people on the street if they had any words of wisdom. Rather than be put off, he found, Florida men just rolled with the idea of having a camera crew in their faces for a few minutes. It didn't even phase them.
Quick drop in to follow-up on all the spam about the Hotel Carolina music fest (which took place neither in a hotel named Carolina nor a hotel in Carolina). It was the first time the organizers tried something quite like this so there were some definite ups and downs. The biggest positive was that the music and artists couldn't have been more mellow and fun and genuine and all the things you hope for from a laid back fest like this. Also on the positive side - our hotel room looked like this:
These are NOT promotional photos, they are photos I took myself of the room. Yes it was incredibly groovy. And the rest of the hotel, common areas, and grounds were just as surftastic. The stage was set-up in the pool area so you could swim all day and listen to music, then break for dinner, and come back at night to relax on the pool lounge chairs, look at the stars, and listen to more music. The setting and substance couldn't have been better. The big downer was that NO ONE WAS THERE. I guess the other events this group has put on have always sold out from word of mouth. So almost no effort was put into marketing. It made for a fabulously intimate setting but I couldn't help but feel a little bad for the performers.
Last I checked there were plans to bring the Hotel Carolina experience to other locations around the country. If one comes your way, take a chance and go!

Brendan James Matt Duke Ari Hest Griffin House Michael Tolcher Garrison Starr Sarah Miles Ken Yates Bracher Brown Russell Howard Jacob Jeffries Band and Michael Pearsall (Honor By August)
Of those, I am particularly excited about seeing Griffin House.
Ari Hest has a free album download on noisetrade (but, you know, it is nice to tip).
Can't believe I've never heard of that. Won't be going, though; I need to save my money.
I got an email yesterday saying tickets were going down to $34.99 for the ENTIRE weekend but I just checked and the website doesn't reflect that change yet.
"Multiple people" were injured after a small plane crashed into an Orlando area Publix supermarket Monday evening, the Volusia County Sheriff's Office said.
"All customers were evacuated safely and all Publix associates are accounted for," Publix spokesman Dwaine Stevens said.
The store remained closed late Monday...
Yup, was all over the news last night/this morning.
