Radio Paradise

A few years ago I was working on a painting which had floppy discs and CD-ROM discs (which I had gotten from a thrift/recycle store) glued down as the painting surface. One disc had some Sharpie scribbling on it so I put it in a computer and scanned it, then found some photos from a family gathering on it. I recently modified one of the images with Corel software. Using a "selective focus" effect to blur out the people and focus on the table.

Nice frisÃ© on the green chair on the right edge, and that drapery fringe that they put on upholstered chairs is so hard to get from our local place. I know they still make it; I bought a new footstool with it a few years ago... as a cat toy. They love that stuff! I can't remember who, exactly, but someone in my family had that ashtray. The chrome part in the middle had a dome that you could flip over to hide the butts.

Yeah, that might be the flip-top style or the one that split open in the middle of two semi-circles. I thought it might be one of those spinner style ones - when you pushed the plunger the tray bottom would descend and turn quickly, spinning the ashes into the base - but those had the plunger in the center.

A friend went to SXSW ...here's a shot of Gary Numan (noted Country & Western legend) that grabbed me. Lots of photos in the set that are better than a lot of stuff you see out there...
