It's the blacked-out SUVs and the dearth of details that interest me, not the guns in this case.
Greater Vancouver boasts good numbers of targeted, mostly public shootings. Roughly one third are first generation Canadian of Punjabi origin shooting at peers. Several studies have found that immigrants do not integrate particularly well into Canadian society compared to other destination countries. Perhaps there is a connection there.
It is odd. The first generation are generally secular. The parents are typically believing and practising traditional Sikhs. They are gentle, respectful and sweet.
Conventional wisdom has it that most of the murders are narcotics trafficking related. Much of the violence is brazen, over-the-top. As opposed to clean and discrete.
I don't give the blacked-out SUVs and the lack of details a second thought. The latter is done to respect privacy and minimize security risks.
The RCMP and other regional forces are carrying significant weaponry. Concealing armed officers and armaments confers a strategic advantage and avoids unduly panicking the public. I fully support the police in bringing all the firepower they feel they need to these situations. This is not of their doing.
MADRID â Turkey agreed Tuesday to lift its opposition to Sweden and Finland joining NATO, a breakthrough in an impasse clouding a leadersâ summit in Madrid amid Europeâs worst security crisis in decades triggered by the war in Ukraine.
âWe now have an agreement that paves the way for Finland and Sweden to join NATO,â alliance Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said following top-level talks.
Russiaâs invasion of Ukraine prompted Sweden and Finland to abandon their long-held nonaligned status and apply to join NATO. But Turkish President Recep Tayyip ErdoÄan had blocked the move, insisting the Nordic pair change their stance on Kurdish rebel groups that Turkey considers terrorists.
Finnish President Sauli Niinistö said the three countriesâ leaders signed a joint agreement after talks on Tuesday. Turkey said it had âgot what it wantedâ including âfull cooperation ... in the fight againstâ the rebel groups.
Your explanation was wonderfully clear, Yves. I’ve circulated it to my UN colleagues after a morning meeting with the Near East and India for a meeting. They are seeing dedollarization as a means of de-indebting themselves, especially in view of the rising energy and food prices that will make payment of their foreign debt impossible. The IMF is trying to give them SDRs to pay dollar bondholders, but the representatives I spoke with today look forward to a Eurasian-backed alternative set of institutions to the IMF and World Bank, starting with a kind of Clean Slate. That was their motive for inviting me to the meeting. The amazing thing is that it is the US itself that has chosen to dedollarize the world — and perhaps with it, its dollarized debt burden for the Global South.
I keep seeing facebook posts with giant convoy pictures and ridiculous claims of support and donations. But I haven't seen anything else about it, and it's been a week or so, shouldn't they have made it to DC by now? Maybe they are waiting for JFK Jr. to show up?
I read last night that the Barstow group was down to 6 5 trucks by Vegas and was thinking maybe they could combine all of the convoys or something but I guess they just called it quits.
The news cycle has moved on to more important matters.

I should reverse search the images on FB to find the source, but I don't care enough.
some of the claims were chuckle worthy- 50,000 gallons of fuel donated, a tip jar w/ $25,000 for the drivers, a donated bbq feed for 2500 people...

So the convoy fizzled out but my guy came through. I do wish it would have been something that took off with the convoy crowd but even without that it still makes me laugh so maybe in a while it will start to take off on its own. They also called it "The Honkening." :hattip:
Did you know that "Canada Goose" is trademarked? I wish the USPTO would wake up.

My brother in law posted something about it last week, a convoy leaving from Barstow. I'll admit, the junk little graphic he shared had a little joke that I thought was hilarious. I couldn't draw it well so I hired a guy online and he's taking for ev er. I had hoped to sell a ton to these guys but it's funny just on its own, I think.
Anyway I'm gonna try to cash in. /ethics
