You have very good points. What's really disturbing is the lack of organized and coherent resistance and legal challenges.
I'm not surprised that the GOP isn't doing anything. The party is a collection of free agents, each looking out for his own interests. There is no profit for them in challenging Trump. Most of the GOP people in Congress agree with the general outlines of Trump's proposed agenda so fighting over the legality of Trump's methods or the extent of his actionsâdeporting people illegally, making excessive cuts to the governmentâisn't worth fighting for. GOP members will likely disappear or pretend they no longer understand English if/when an actual constitutional crisis erupts.
The Democrats need to speak up NOW. Don't wait for the economic effect of the tariffs to hit. Run with the majority consensus of Americans that Trump is going too far and needs to be reined in. Come up with a coherent plan to make life more affordable for Americansâhigher minimum wage, stimulation of new housing construction/conversion, subsidized child care, new ways to save money for college, retirement, etc. Emphasize over and over again that the ultra-rich are robbing the rest of us with excessive wealth, political capture and tax evasion.
David Brooks, writing in the New York Times and appearing on the PBS Newshour, has some great ideas on pulling together a broad and deep coalition of groups resisting and challenging Trump.
The courts are glacial on this matter, to the point that they're almost acquiescing to Trump's kleptomania and Constitutional defiance.
The fundamental issue here is division. The concept that the privileges of being American only apply to a narrowly defined sub-group and not to anyone else.
That is why the Republicans can be so blatantly hypocritical and get away with it, because the fundamental message is one of tribalism. We're in, you're not. It's like putting history back several centuries to the Dark Ages, where we all nestled within the protective walls of our local fiefdom as the foreign hordes stormed the ramparts.
Until the "privileged" realise they are
1. not actually privileged
2. making us all poorer (including themselves) with such arcane policies
we will never have any resolution.
Can we get back to the idea that the President is in the middle of staging a coup?
Do a quick survey of what previous âstrong menâ have done and heâs following the same script. It really takes blinders to not be aware of it.
From the book âStrongmenâ -
For ours is the age of authoritarian rulers: self-proclaimed saviors of the nation who evade accountability while robbing their people of truth, treasure, and the protections of democracy. They promise law and order, then legitimize lawbreaking by financial, sexual, and other predators.
They use masculinity as a symbol of strength and a political weapon. Taking what you want, and getting away with it, becomes proof of male authority. They use propaganda, corruption, and violence to stay in power.
Vladimir Putin and Mobutu Sese Sekoâs kleptocracies, Augusto Pinochetâs torture sites, Benito Mussolini and Muammar Gaddafiâs systems of sexual exploitation, and Silvio Berlusconi and Donald Trumpâs relentless misinformation: all show how authoritarian rule, far from ensuring stability, is marked by destructive chaos.
No other type of leader is so transparent about prioritizing self-interest over the public good. As one country after another has discovered, the strongman is at his worst when true guidance is most needed by his country.

This is the kind of nonsense that keeps me out of these so-called debates.
You might consider evicting Dave & anybody else living rent free in your head & just post your opinions for yourself without attachment to anyone’s reactions. Rip more vinyl, you’ll sleep better.
Two lines.
1) He has called me an attention whore in one way or another many times in the past as he defends himself regarding comments I've made about his posts.
2) Projection ?
.
Edit: I haven't stopped ripping vinyl. I just don't post or mention it anymore as it has been made clear that no one wants to hear about it.
20 posts per page using the old system = 95,400 posts
7,847 days since joining @ 21.5 years.
95,400 posts / 7,847 days = 12.16posts per day, EVERY DAY for over 21.5 years
That's an awful lot of "quality".
You say he rates 100% quality ?
So who again is the attention whore ?
just to be thorough, I put myself through the same process and I came up with 1.82 posts per day. That makes me a real slacker when it comes to posting here.
So whatâ¦.you win?
You actually spend time auditing peopleâs posting history toâ¦make what point exactly?
These are rhetorical questions, I donât have the patience to read a response over about two lines.

Says the one RPeep who has made more posts than everyone else here put together
It’s not the quantity, it’s the quality dude. Give it some thought.
Yeah, ok.
So I went and looked at his posting history
4770 pages since 2003

She's got an opinion so that means she acknowledges that he is god's representative on earth and so should probably shut up or she'll be meeting with lesser imps and demons.
I guess she assumes she needs to express her opinion and people need to know it, even though she's not Catholic, she's not even Christian.
