Proclivities wrote:It's funny; I'm working on an art project/competition (a green/recycle theme) and I was thinking of using those discs, glued down like subway tiles, to use as a painting surface. I probably had hundreds of them but I must've tossed them years ago. There's a cool "re-use" store here that sells all sorts weird odds and ends (old typewriters, rotary phones, old tools, vintage fabric, etc.). I go there to buy frames (with glass still in them) and things like foam core. I went to look for some of those 3½" disks and even they didn't have any. They have 55 gal. drums full of DVD's and CDs though, but they're harder to make a completely filled, flat painting surface with since they're round. I may have to do some sort of mosaic piece. Last time I flew through San Francisco International Terminal they had a big art display from the city recycle depot's artist-in-residence program. It was freaking awesome. There was an actual-size Humvee made out of carved Styrofoam blocks. You could mount the CDs and cover them with epoxy to make a flat surface. Be sure to show us what you come up with.

I'm trying to get part numbers marked on a CNC punch press. I can turn outline fonts into lines and edges on the metal but what I need is a font made up of dots. Tiny circles that the punch press software will interpret as places to dent with a centerpunch. I need what amounts to a pointilist line font.
Anybody know of such a thing?
