Back when I was an avid listener of KHUM-FM Frendale, California... I was the habitual requester. The DJ's there seemed to like my request. I think I even taught a couple of them about some songs/ artist. I would send them songs they couldn't find. And they would make it onto their regular playlist.
One of my favorites over there was Bayley Brown. She would talk to me about music all the time.
She was playing this song in rotation and I really liked it. But I couldn't find it anywhere at the time. So I asked her how I could get it. All of a sudden I got an email. She sent it to me. I called and thanked her. She said you send us songs all the time the least she could do was to send me one.
