"President Donald Trump routinely hears words he’s not familiar with, then marvels at their existence or takes credit for inventing the words. He has done it with “groceries” and “equalizing” and “caravans.” And now, after New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani and a slew of Democratic candidates shellacked Republicans in the Nov. 4 election by focusing on making life more affordable for Americans, Trump seems to have discovered the word “affordability.” Reflecting on the GOP’s dreadful election results, Trump said of his fellow Republicans: “You know, they have this new word called ‘affordability’ and they don’t talk about it enough.” When you’re filthy rich and focused on building a gilded ballroom, it makes sense that you’d consider “affordability” a “new word.”" — USA today 11/8/25
Actually the democrats have rewrapped their old flailing DEI term "equity" and have replaced it with "affordability".
The meaning and the usage is the same. Same old change the language used to control the narrative tactic.
That is the primary thing that keeps the two sides from actually talking to each other and solving things.
The more things change, the more they remain the same ...

Good point: that drives the QAnon folks to vote non-Trump as well. Their whole thing was to expose the child molesters and now the GOP is protecting him/them.
It's why I call this shutdown the Epstein Shutdown.

And, regardless of party affiliation, it will be remembered in less than a year at midterms. IF the Democrats can maintain the (true) story that the fulcrum of this is keeping the people's health care premiums "reasonable" and the Republicans don't want that. Basically, they need to keep up the message that the flight cancellation, the SNAP issues, the lack of government workers where they're needed -it's all because the GOP wants to raise your healthcare costs to unsustainable levels and the Dems are fighting that.

I'm astonished they are fighting distribution of food stamps so that people can eat. That's a level of cruelty that is barbaric.
