I always go in but this time it smelled like death upstairs. Vulture feathers two feet long scattered around one room. I peeked around for a corpse then hustled on downstairs. Didn't want that stench to settle into my clothes.
In the past probably 30 visits I never smelled death in the house. Could have been an animal or one of the buzzards perfume. Maybe they roosted up there for awhile. Generally they roost on the tall power and cell towers. I didn't see evidence of anything that might have been dragged up that narrow stairwell, but the stench was rotten flesh guaranteed.
There is one room downstairs that I've only entered once because you can tell from the stains it is where someone spent their last days living and breathing.
anyway...
A turkey vulture will vomit up a good half a bucket of the most putrid, noxious globulous slime just to say hi. When I worked at Bird Rescue the vultures all had their own gloves. (Not for them to wear but to be handled with, duh).

Right? The face looks like an older German Shepherd to me (with those streaks of gray on the side of their noses) but these animals are about twice the size of shepherds, and yet still smaller than the kangaroos we saw near Adelaide.

This is a strange old house I visit when I drive through Star. Someone stole the door and stained glass last year.
Over time the stained glass began to disappear. Finally the door. I was tempted to take pieces but some way I felt about it wanted to leave it all untouched. All of the openings were stained glass except the large door glass. I never saw what that had been.
