This article is heavy on the pearl clutching and light on the facts, but it also omits a significant bit of history of the case. The court rewrote the plaintiff's plea to let them decide a much narrower point than what they sued over. They turned the case from what the original issue was to what they would rather decide.

Guns may be extremely popular in the USA but that does not mean that most Americans, the vast majority actually, know how to properly and safely use them.

If Americans did know how to properly and safely use them, they would not be popular self defence weapons.   Other approaches would be favoured.

I did not blame Baldwin for the death.  Where do you see that ?  I blamed the industry itself for the death.

Just as I said, innuendo and leaving yourself room to backtrack. "So lefty darling (and notorious bully) shoots and kills someone on a movie set."

Of course you didn't really mean he was to blame for shooting and killing someone, but you had to stick that in then act all innocent that you were really talking about the industry. Same old shtick

As far as the industry goes, yes there is excessive violence because it sells. That was true before the shooting, too.

I clearly described the act and the person who pulled the trigger.  I also clearly did not blame him for it.  No back tracking.

As I described Baldwin, I believe to be accurate especially considering his documented tirades against his daughter and confrontations on the streets of NYC.  I can only hope that Baldwin has a personal comeuppance as a result of this tragedy he is a part of.  So far to my knowledge he has never been remorseful regarding any of the above mentioned incidents.  I find it poetic justice or irony for Baldwin who has up until now been untouched by any incidents he has been involved with so far.  Now he has one that may finally slow him down and maybe even humble him.  Shame someone had to die to get there.

But who knows what he feels.  I certainly don't.   He is an actor after all.

Re: the bolded.  You just explain it yet do not state your opinion as to whether or not it is a good or bad thing.  I just see a rationalization based on whataboutism.  It "was true before".  That makes it OK in your opinion ?

They're out there in the remote open spaces. Maybe there has been gun play or target shooting for fun in the off hours. Could make room for time bombs.
You're right. Live ammo? Why?
Extra hands involved in the transference of gun to the actors/scenes?
No double triple checks of each and every gun prior to providing actor/scene?
Pointing gun in direction of a person or animal? I thought they had those types of shots worked out.
Apparently there was a bit of dissention in and possibly between the ranks. Attitudes can kill by default. "Not my job."
Sounds like a tragic and careless accident.

Because there are too many questions and misunderstandings that need to be answered. I'm not willing to say Mr. Baldwin is innocent or a murderer, yet.

It turns out there was a live round in the gun! Okay, fine, accidents happen. But no: as far as I can tell, when a prop master/armorer says it's a live round, they simply mean that it can go boom: a blank. There wasn't a mixup between blanks and cartridges with bullets because bullets are never used in filming and there's no reason —probably a literal crime somewhere, certainly against union rules— for actual bullets to ever be on a film set. There was a mixup between having the gun be 100% empty VS having blanks, or a flag that goes "bang". AFAICT "cold gun" means pull the trigger all you want, you'll just get a click. So "live round" meant a blank or some thing without a lead bullet but possibly a wad of something.

I haven't heard, though, if it was a real bullet. It's not likely that a wad from a blank would kill someone from a normal distance but up close, sure. A few years ago our former GM at the ski hill decided to haze  a moose away from the get-off point of our chairlift. We have a pistol with blanks for this and he was itchin' to use it but he actually aimed it at the moose! It drew blood out of her hindquarters from 50 feet away. BTW she didn't budge. Her calf was hidden nearby and there's no way she was going to be hazed off.

If you want me to jump to a conspiracy theory it will be that some disgruntled worker among those who walked off the set a week earlier left a real live bullet in one of the guns. If I continue down this path it will be to say that it wasn't done to get anyone killed, but just to reflect poorly on the new armorer who had just gotten started in the business (was she non-union? I'm not sure, but it was union guys who walked). I mean in my mind, they might have thought the AD would catch the problem and fire her, or maybe they do this routinely as job security: "Whoops! Found a real bullet! Lucky I was here!" This is all moot if it was a blank but fired at very close range. We know that can kill.

“We put ourselves in Baldwin’s shoes and try to imagine what he felt upon realizing what had happened. Seeing him so distraught and plainly grieving in photos snapped after the shooting should move anyone to empathy and pause our nation’s default cynicism. But not in our spiritually hollowed-out world, where meanness is a virtue and hatred is the coin of the realm.”
