The Rolling Stones remove 'Brown Sugar' from tour setlist over lyrics depicting slavery Cydney Henderson, USA TODAYWed, October 13, 2021, 7:47 PM
The Rolling Stones may have dubbed their tour "No Filter," but the iconic rock band has filtered out one of their most popular songs from their setlist.
The band retired their 1971 hit song "Brown Sugar" from their current tour, for now, over "conflicts" surrounding the controversial lyrics that depict slavery, rape and drugs, guitarist Keith Richards confirmed to TheLos Angeles Times.
"You picked up on that, huh?" Richards told the outlet after he was asked why the band has refrained from playing it. He added that he doesn't understand the controversy.
"Iâm trying to figure out with the sisters quite where the beef is," Richards said. "Didnât they understand this was a song about the horrors of slavery? But theyâre trying to bury it. At the moment I donât want to get into conflicts with all of this."
Reminds (indirectly) me of the time i saw the stones at the rose bowl. In between the chili peppers' set and the stones I went to the bathroom. On the way back to my seat as i was going by stage left, the lights went down, security guard turned his back, and i quickly made a turn and my way to center stage, three rows back. Enjoyed most of the show there until (this is where the remembering bit comes) mick sat down to play keys for memory motel, and the crowd also took a seat, leaving me standing out like a sore thumb, and on my way back to my seat, 50 rows back.
Vox equipment was hard to find in the US for a while, unless it was used. I almost bought a used Vox "teardrop" guitar in the '80s. By the time I gathered the money I went back to the store and it was already sold.
that's some good DJing with "Sway" and "Let It Loose" together
I have thought about burning a Bowie best of but when I try to whittle them down I give up, like on "Ziggy Stardust" I would do them all except one and of the 10 from "Lodger" I'd have go with 6 of them, so I just put 3 or 5 Bowie cd's in the player at a time
It actually is more involved than that. Check it out:
