I ripped your heart out from your chest
Replaced it with a grenade blast

Incinerate, incinerate
Incinerate, incinerate

The firefighters hose me down
I don't care, I'll burn out anyhow
It's for alarm, girl, nothing to see
Hear the sirens come for me

You dosed my soul with gasoline
You flicked a match into my brain

Incinerate, incinerate
Incinerate, incinerate

The firefighters are so nice
I remember you so cold as ice
Now flames are licking at your feet
Sirens come to put me out of misery

You wave your torch into my eyes
Flamethrower lover, burning mind

Incinerate, incinerate
Incinerate, incinerate
Incinerate, incinerate
Incinerate, incinerate

+2 for an particularly evocative and well stated band name.
geez, this is played every day on the rock mix. can't there be other tracks also, please?
Sonic Youth also get a +1 for having a particularly cool band name, even if they definitely are not youths anymore, lol. But hey, I'm not a youth anymore either!
love this. love it.

can we also get some dinosaur jr on this mix?
Great group too bad kim and thurston imploded and the rest of sonic youth too

Michael Bolton? I celebrate his entire catalog! lol
(yeah I nearly spit out my coffee reading that one)
Interesting segue from Supertramp "Goodbye Stranger" to this...

Welcome to Sonic Youth and enjoy their back catalog! Their early years are definitely more raw, but heart-felt, experimental in the best sense of the word, and generally excellent. I suggest Goo and Dirty (my personal favorites) as great Sonic Youth albums to start with. I still listen to both on a regular basis.
This group is new to me. excellent song.
Nirvana AND Sonic Youth in the same block? Man, Bill must have done some good drugs in the early 90's.
I 'grew up' with this band and had the biggest boyhood crush on Kim Gordon. It's too bad the band didn't survive. But their music will always be cool to my ears.
Great tune!

I just downloaded the slideshow app - and the images for this track certainly did not disappoint!!
Now I want to hear the Melvins on RP

A tenth as cool would work for me.

This is track is sooo listenable. Those deficiencies are probably there, I trust you, but I'm glad I don't hear  them whatever they are. I do share the intoxicating pleasure you mention. Thank you to everyone who makes and shares music. Good going, SY.

This is what Eric's Youth took their inspiration from?
South of france is definitely RP  "rock patriot"    Bill 4 president!  les murs de la maison tremblent
When that first chord struck I thought "No way, "Pyjamarama" on RP!.  But no.

Shut up and go enjoy your autotuned  vocalists.
I've always thought this song sounded like the spiritual successor to the soundtrack of the classic NES videogame Guardian Legend. I'll let you judge:

OK, this will be stuck in my head for the rest of the day, and possibly some days after that as well.
This really took me by surprise when it came out. They'd started to fade from the tune-stream, but then wow, this quantum-brilliant jam!
SO good!
It's 4 alarm

There's a lot of SY stuff I don't bother with, but they also have some pop songs that are pretty cool. Never did care for Thurston's much-lauded guitar wizardry. But I will say this: They are all very nice people. I'm a firm believer that that made all the difference as to whether or not you would have ever heard of them. There may have been a dozen bands who did it first or better, but someone has to take a chance on you. Nice guys finish first.

Wow, you got to meet them? Lucky you. Yeah, that'd make a big difference for me as well.

Pavarotti is actually pushing aside his fra diavolo to put a celestial hex on you...

Sounds very "Replacements-ish" to me
Hit it, RP! {#Dancingbanana_2}

Edit:

This would be a great follow-up.

They have so many diverse sounds, and some songs are real jammers (best IMO maybe on 'Dirty'), and this one is a ripper for sure!

Well, the band was formed around 1980, so Moore was only about 22.  Of course, Jerry Garcia didn't comply with his band's name until 1995 or so.
I heard the first few bars of this song and immediately thought, "OOOO - Hollywood Nights by Bob Seger."  And then I remembered that he doesn't get played here.  I sorta like this song, but damn - not tonight.  I'll analyze it more later, maybe. Or I'll just listen to Juke Kartel.
one of the most OVERLOOKED outfits in rock history...

Yeah, but they're still one of the best bands around—completely unafraid of experimentation. That's what keeps 'em young.

To me, one of the really great things about 'em is that they just keep getting better with every release (to my ears).

I had no idea of their ages, which only leads me to believe even deeper in the fact that you are only as old as you ROCK!{#Bananasplit}

Nice song, reminds me a bit of some Broken Social Scene riffs.

I call them Sonic Long in the Tooth.

They still rock!
Meh. This is a lovely song but I've just never been a Sonic Youth fan I guess. I gaveded it a five.

Sonic Youth have a couple other songs, right?  You'd think in 20+ years they could have written at least one other song that Bill would deem play-worthy.  I can think of a couple I'd rather hear.
Are they now Sonic Middleaged? {#Lol}

We need a sheep emote.   Baaaaaah.

What a romantic love song!
Sonic Youth has ruled for many years!!!!!!!!!!!!{#Hearteyes} If'n you doubt listen to Sister.
I hear a lot of Clash - Lost In The Supermarket in this.
poi dog pondering - wood guitar? anyone else hear that?
Please nooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!! This was not even good back when it was supposed to be!!
Thurston's a Dinosaur Jr fan!!! right on This album is great, i was happy to hear it from them. What's it been, 20 years of incredibly good work? these guys are classic.

'You dosed my soul with gasoline You flicked a match into my brain Incinerate' To me, this song is the ultimate description of the devasting betrayal by my ex, I love it's raw energy and stark, dark lyrics. It helped carry me through a very dark time and I love this song.

I, just this evening, put out a fire that started at the neighbors' front door (smoldering cigs) with my flip flops, so this is a rather timely tune to hear.

Huh. I just got onto them recently. This is exactly my idea of what they sound like. I guess there's a lot of great material for me to listen by these guys.
Beck/Stones/Sonic Youth? Great set!
Didn't recognize them. My memories of Sonic Youth are for the CD "Cool Thing"
like it this song reminds me of "Spoon"
Wow, that transition almost makes me like this song!! Nice job!!
Tasty!
very nice, very nice
Bill, I didn't know this album was a single. Too bad there aren't others songs on it that could be played.

Oh, I suggest you browse through some of the comments before you think that this is overreacting. I think you'll find that some of these jokers seem to delight in tearing down music that others like. Since music affects one on an emotional level, this is like attacking someone's religion. Respect runs two ways, folks!
musikalia wrote:

I think the poster is recognizing that some people just seem to be all full of piss and vinegar, and if they are that miserable and hate the music, heck, why are they here? Thinking their ugly comments are clever? It is depressing to read reams of overt negativity. BTW I like it (this song) too. I never would have thought I liked Sonic Youth if not for RP. They made me give SY, and a thousand other artists, a chance.

Hell Yeah....RP is on Fire...Incinerating Actually!! Talking Heads > Tom Waits > (and now) Sonic Youth!!! Thank Ya, Thank Ya Very Much!
Came in and thought that was the Feelies.
smashin'
Unbelievably I just got turned on to these guys last month. I read Neil Youngs comments about them but never got around to it until I started listening to RP as background music.
I think Thurston Moore is a smart and articulate guy who really knows, understands and loves music. . . it's just that I can't get into the music he actually makes.
Just bumped up my rating from 8 to 9, this album seems like one that will really get better over time. I keep coming back to it and it sounds fresh each time I hear it.
...Kick Ass...!!!!
Well damn. It went from who is this to oh, ok. then to maybe next listen.
Nice job of doing what they do best: creating rich textures of sound that fill any headphones, speakers, or room, not to mention your head! I've always thought they hit a peak with Dirty, and Sonic Nurse was mighty tasty and unexpectedly good, but: how's the rest of this new stuff? Lay some on us, please, Bill -- and thanks heaps for this!
saw them open for PJ this year about 6 times. this is the first song of theirs that has stood out since KOOL thing since being above their noise. just listen to that....mmm

When I hear SY, I think of the suburbs...generic tract housing in the middle of nowhere. I make this obscure reference as praise for the band...not criticism...just to clarify.
Lovin'em. Seems that back 'in-the-day' I didn't like them; then I got sober; had a few profound Spiritual experiences (still do from time2time), became MUCH MORE open minded (sans booze & dope) and these fellas rock!!!
Great tune, getting a tad too much airplay however. Recently heard Turquoise Boy, and thought it sounded much like an RP tune...serve it up, Bill! :)

That's the last time I go and download a song after hearing it on RP. With the constant spins here and listening to it 25+ times at home have almost killed it for me already...
i am a little idiot on the sonic youths world, everybody loves this band, why any album is too important? and vanguardist, i think that this sound exist fromm Can a pixies album, whats new?
Didn't think I liked Sonic Youth but everything I've heard on RP so far is pushing my buttons.
Never thought that Sonic youth would get this good...solid "7", maybe even "8"
