Citizen King — Better Days
(It goes a little something like, like, like this.)
In my shoes
My toes are busted
My kitchen says
My bread is molded
Got a good job
At the dollar store
One foot in the hole
One foot gettin' deeper
With a broken mirror
And a blown out speaker
I ain't got much else to lose
I'm faded, flat busted
Been jaded I been dusted
I know that I've seen better days
One foot in the hole
One foot gettin' deeper
Crank it to eleven
And blow another speaker
And I ain't got much to lose
'Cause I've seen better days
Been the star of many plays
I've seen better days
And the bottom drops out
I've seen better days
Been the star of many plays
I've seen better days
And the bottom drops out
Now my cup's filled up with five buck wine
Find myself here all the time
Another rip in the glass
Another chip in my tooth
Rained on I've been stained on
Found another goat I tried to put the blame on
Now I'm steppin on all the cracks
So I guess there ain't no use
'Cause I've seen better days
Been the star of many plays
I've seen better days
And the bottom drops out
I've seen better days
Been the star of many plays
I've seen better days
And the bottom drops out
(like my Gucci bag?)
(That's beautiful, beautiful)
I'm bent like glass
Second hand like glory
Missed the bus but I'm in no hurry
Molasses fast no business born
One foot in the hole
One foot gettin' deeper
Crank it to eleven
And blow another speaker
And I ain't got much to lose
'Cause I've seen better days
Been the star of many plays
I've seen better days
And the bottom drops out
I've seen better days
Been the star of many plays
I've seen better days
I've seen better days
I know that I've seen better days
I've been the star
Of so many plays
Walked on the edge with that hobo way
'Cause I know
I know that I've seen better
Better days
(Now I'm real thirsty)
In my shoes

I actually know these guys, am close to a couple of them. They used to rock for years, really fun and good musicians. And then they "made it", had a big studio produced album (this one) and well...as many bands come and go...they went! They split soon after, now doing sep projects and again making really GOOD music.
Eclectic mix to the extreme
Rap Crap. A lot of which is beginning to sound like that whining kind of country music where it's all booze, trucks, and unfaithful women.

I couldn't agree more. This is annoying in the extreme.
A funny enjoyable one hit summer wonder
Not the best song in the world but fun just the same.

I actually like this song a lot, but you have a point: One of the things I think RP does well is that it resists the temptation to play too many songs like this-- simple, infectious, maybe a bit obvious. I thnk the song is good, but give me five songs in a row (or 30 or 50!) that are just like it and I become jaded and jangled. That said, I wish RP would play more (not too many more, but more-- and carefully chosen) songs like this.

While I ordinarily would defend the right for a track overplayed on so-called "new" or "modern" rock stations to be segued into RP's playlist--I have to agree here. This song is lazily written and performed to boot.

But wouldn't it be so much better if what you were singing was actually good?
I'll try not to be a pretentious a-hole if you'll try not to be a presumptuous a-hole.

I'm going to guess that was probably aimed partially at me, since there were only two previous comments. I'm not pretentious, I just typically don't much like the music they play on the "alternative" stations, which is why I come here. If you like this song, then fine, no need to be a judgmental a-hole!

It's okay, but this seems like the kind of song I'd hear on my local "alternative" station.
Edit: Some of the songs those stations play can be pretty good, and this one may grow on me.... 4 for now.
