With eyes of fire
No one can see
The smoke from the sweet grass
Covers me

I am drawn
I am drawn to her
Like a moth to flame
She leads me down
Unbound

I am lost
I am lost
Has anybody seen me
I am lost

Oh nothing is forgotten
Only left behind
Wherever I am
She leads me down
Unbound

No borders
No fences
No walls
No borders
No fences
Unbound

Oh, listen for the night chant
Oh, listen for the night chant

Like a moth to flame
She leads me down
Unbound

No borders
No fences

To short!
7.4? What kind of people are listening to RP these days anyway? This is one of the songs that got me hooked on RP and I never get tired of it.

Great song by Robbie gave  it a 9
This song, this album is a masterpiece. Sofakinggood!
It's interesting, this is played but No Manic Street Preachers ... hmm
A mellow Tempranillo just made this a 10!
This whole album is sofakingamazing....
My only gripe is that this song ends too soon. Want it to go on and on beyond that beautiful guitar solo. Just a mystical and wonderful piece of music.

You may be right.  I like everything I've heard of Mr Robertson's solo career, and am surprised I wasn't exposed to this 20 years ago.

A fine album
From Wiki:

"The first producer Robertson considered for production of the album (title: Robbie Robertson; release: 1987)  was fellow Canadian Daniel Lanois. After meeting up with several more potential producers, Robertson decided to work with Lanois because of their shared interest in experimentation. After Lanois finished a stage of the production work with U2 on what would become their album The Joshua Tree, Robertson let Lanois know that he was ready to begin work on the album."

There is a long history so your instincts were spot on though Daniel's influence was there but not his actual work as Bill noted.
 On_The_Beach wrote:
Hmmm, I wonder if Lanois produced this?
It has a bit of his sound to it.

Produced by Robbie & Tim Gordine (who also produced the Syntax & Eastmountainsouth albums we play). Very nicely produced track.

Roger that.
Long time Robbie fan, it took me a while to embrace the whole album after the style of his earlier solo work, but when I came back to it a couple of years later I really liked the overall vibe. Hearing a great song like this randomly on RP is always a treat, thanks Bill & Rebecca.
wow
This is a spooky album, full of ghosts

They find it in Canada brother.... :-)

Jackie O agree Robertson out foxed the other guys and drove old Dixie down while he lays around in L A L A -land
but in the end you reap what you sow..

Of course — so long as white corporate multi-millionaires making six figure wink-wink donations to tale-spinning prervaricating troglodyte candidates are the immigrants coming through the border fences.  Kenyan Mexican Muslims from Jakarta with pre-existing conditions best not apply for visas or hire smugglers.
Where do they tind such good shit!!!! Luv it!
Despite the fact that Robbie screwed his fellow Band members on all the song writing credits for that group, and left them twisting in the wind, he still has a great sound.
"no borders - no fences" - the new GOP convention song?
Strong Beauty, a pleasure to join you all listening to Robbie and reading these positive notes   : )

This is a really, really cool song... 9 from me
Fine-fine music!
This song, more than any other from him except his Songs for Native Americans stuff, shows how plugged into sound this genius is...

I can't remember ever hearing this before. It's blowing me away. 8.
I saw Robbie and the Band at the Bear's Café in Woodstock as a kid. My favorite track!!!

Can't say enough about how good this man is

He is very good.

He comes so close  and should be over the line into the big time.

Why it's not is a deep mystery. He can play alongside the big stars... But the world is filled with those who should be the, could b, would be, -IF- only... So, I choose to do my bit by buying his music and playing it in the house... I also prattle on to online world...

You may have noticed

You seem to be suggesting that this is inferior. No clue why you might think this. It's not The Band, but over time some of that music has not weathered well, whereas I find this album to be excellent.

Always loved the song, but this video posted below by stunix is truly mesmerizing...and way, way cool!

It's been awhile since I heard this...and I'm really liking it!
"Unbound, no borders, no fences". If only that were so... :(
I don't hear alot of praise for Robbie Robertson & this band, but they are one of my favorites. I love this song!

GREAT!

My thoughts exactly. Very cool track.
Nearly meditation music!
Never understood the success of "THE BAND" and their
glorified concert-film meant nooothing to me neither!

Same for Robbie Robertson's first album,
I bought for whatever reason right after his "BAND" split.
Just did not like it neither...

Till today!

Like this song a lot and wonder about my weird taste of the past!

EDIT:
Turns out this song is not from his first album! Is that an excuse..?

This is so haunting - I love the female vocals in the background.  I used to do my stretches to this song, with all the lights off and some candles burning.  Magical...{#Meditate}

Cool tune like many of Robbie's.  Had great voices with him in The Band but understands and works well with his own vocal limitations in his solo work.

Finally!!!
A spiritual man, and song. Originally from 'The Band' (no bad thing) onto his later, more based in his roots, music,a good listen.
Plays a pretty mean guitar too.
Nice!!

Thank You Tim Gordine!
Is the song "Sacrifice" on this album? What an epic tune with Leonard Peltier's voice running through-out! Think RR's solo stuff is great for the most part.
Maybe why he hired the singer from the Bodeans to do the "I dunno, the wind always seems to blow me there along the levee song"

Still like it, notwithstanding.
