It's time to move on, it's time to get going
What lies ahead, I have no way of knowing
But under my feet, baby, grass is growing
It's time to move on, time to get going

Broken skyline
Movin' through the airport
She's an honest defector
Conscientious objector
Now her own protector

A broken skyline
Which way to love land?
Which way to something better?
Which way to forgiveness?
Which way do I go?

Yeah, it's time to move on, time to get going
What lies ahead, I have no way of knowing
But under my feet, baby, grass is growing
It's time to move on, time to get going

Sometime later
Getting the words wrong
Wasting the meaning
and losing the rhyme

Nauseous adrenalin
Like breakin' up a dogfight
Like a deer in the headlights
Frozen in real time
I'm losing my mind

Yeah, it's time to move on, time to get going
What lies ahead, I have no way of knowing
But under my feet, baby, grass is growing
It's time to move on, it's time to get going

Yeah, it's time to move on, time to get going
What lies ahead, I have no way of knowing
But under my feet, baby, grass is growing
It's time to move on, it's time to get going

Yeah, it's time to move on, it's time to get going.

I work in medicine and have noticed a disturbing trend of rock/movie star deaths from prescription medications. It got me interested and I started a growing list. Tom Petty, Michael Jackson, Prince, Elvis, Taylor Hawkins, Chris Cornell.  Opioids and benzodiazepines look the most deadly combination. With the recent opioid epidemic, I guess it's not rocket science that there is something not right in the US with the prescribing of drugs by MDs. Sorry to be a downer but loved all these musicians. RIP
I miss this Mud Crutch dude.

What the hell are you blathering on about?
The sentiments expressed by this song have been the back-ground soundtrack of my entire life.  I'm not bragging, that sort of perspective it carries its own burdens.  But I long ago stopped worrying about it.  I just keep going.  Don't you?

Highlow
American Net'Zen
Bumped this to 10. The old sound of the percussive drum sounding like an old time train… right on.

You're not a very happy camper, are you?
Well, this is an atypical like for me but with its ability to become a seemingly endless marquee in my head for hours and days at a time, I give this an '8'.  I still miss the man but find solace in his first three efforts and parts of Wildflowers which, for me, were unsurpassed.

What are you talking about? There's nothing overtly Christian about "Time To Move On", friend.
As much as I love Tom Petty (had tickets to see him when he passed so unfortunately), this album is highly over-rated for me. I was so looking forward to it when it came out and was crushed by it's repetitive monotony. Without the Heartbreakers this comeback from 25 years ago still just kind of chases its tail.
Saw Tom Petty in 2001, the year my brother and father died. I was moving the next week - starting graduate school in a different state to get out of a toxic relationship. When he played this song I cried. Still tear up to this day hearing it.
another amazing segue

I don't think he was one of the Highwaymen.

But they are passing.
Beautiful lyrics.  And that lap steel guitar (or so I think) is beautiful.

Wow! Leave it Radio Paradise to make me appreciate songs that I forget were on the album....
Miss you ....
Never tired of this stunningly, gorgeous, perfectly arranged song. Every element of it is just perfection.

Tom was a lightweight compared to Vienna

Mostly harmless
its a really good song {#Dancingbanana}
This is a really nice song.
Great song with a skip along beat for travelin'.

This is great song. Very awesome! :)
{#Devil_pimp}zesty ! such a great lp would love to hear maybe a little " honey bee "
RIP Tom. Such a sad, sad loss that is brought back every time I hear one of his songs, which ALMOST makes me not want to hear them anymore.  Thankfully, I regain my composure by the second or third verse and rock on.
..You've moved on Tom..my love of your music will endure {#Daisy}
The War on Drugs opened their LA show with this song a few days after TP's passing.  Pretty cool tribute.
Rest in peace, Tom.
Forever in our memory and our hearts.
rock on Tom, anywhere!

Funny.  I just hit PSD to get away from that horrible Yes song and landed on this gem.  To each his own I would say.

Time to move On,toward your inspirations..., baby
Tom Petty is not a good singer, nor always a good lyricist, but he usually gets my attention in a good way.
I got divorced in 95, left everything and everyone, and drove from CT to Lincoln City, OR - or as far as my car would take me coast to coast.  Wildflowers was my inspirational and emotional anchor for the 3,500 trip, (1st of 9 cross-country drives).
Sounds very like Mark Knofler!  (or does Mark sound like Tom?)
These days, for some reason or another, it seems like it's always time to move on.

Quite frankly, Wildflowers may be Tom Petty's best album.

I thought it was Paul Simon at first. Pretty decent low-key tune from Petty. I don't think his voice goes very well with this material, but it's not bad.

marvelous...  love it...

Everybody in my church loves this song...

Thank you for playing this.

I certainly had Graceland going through my head as this started.

Good song from a good album that I have not played for years.
Well I was about to go home, but not until this beautiful songs concludes.
Have you still not 'got goin', Petty?
Well, STFU and 'Get Movin' then, Petty! Geeeez.
dont ya hate movin on, movin period..but seriously never tire of the tracks on "Wildflower"  , or Mr. Petty

It's that snare but the songs are quite different. I see your point, though.
The more I hear of this fella the more it makes me want to hear more!
Great stuff.

This one from TP has found it's way onto my player time and time again. The whole doggone album, for me, is a road trip must-have!

I'm not a huge TP fan, but that lyric always gets me.

A most excellent tune.
Yes it is, Tom. 'Night, everybody!
Tom Petty is great.  Timeless.
8:50 Dec 24. Is Tom trying to tell me it is time to do the Christmas shopping?
The right song in time. Thanks. Just wha i need now!

Indeed, it is nigh on time to move on Tom. Great tune.

Nice song!
Like it!
This album came out 15 years ago and still sounds great.  Although it would be TOTALLY awesome if Bill would let it run right into You Wreck Me, the rockingest song on the album.

Going to see TP at Verizon Ampitheater in Charlotte, NC in May. Can't wait!

This song is grand. Love it.

I think this person's saying that Obama needs to get on with his agenda with or without the support of Congressional Democrats. That, or they're from Nevada and they wish Harry Reid would go away.

Maybe, and it is just a suggestion, you do not understand the important role of "road songs" in NA culture.

Bill, please stop reading my mind- it's freaking me out!
I am about to move across the country and (hopefully) find a place to settle in and call home.  Leaving my friends and family behind and hitting the road....so this song is more perfect than ever for the mood I'm in and the thoughts swirling in my head.  Thanks RP, yer the best!

time to turn the radio off. zero to the drums.

One of my favorite songs of all time.  Also happens to be one of Tom's most under-appreciated songs, along with 'A Face in the Crowd.'
Downloaded this whole album after hearing this song last time.  I realized that I had no Tom Petty in my collection.  Definitely an overlooked album.

One of Tom's many lesser known gems.

Very underrated album. I think it's Petty's best. {#Hearteyes}
This would be great followed with Mike Doughty's "Bloom Like the Sunlight in My Song"...

Which would intimate that Sr. is Bush the Greater...don't know if I can roll with that.

DOH! And that would have been so perfect too.

This is one of those songs that makes me wish I would have liked Tom Petty enough to buy an album or two of his along the way.  (Chicken/egg.)  This is great stuff that you don't hear on the radio, and really exemplifies what a talent he is.
Sigh. It's Mr Mumbles again ... Yes it is time to move on.
