This track is 'nearly' as old as me. I hope the neighbours are enjoying it as much as I am.
This was my first exposure to polyrhythms, when I was just a wee lad. Shrieve, Carabello and Areas can do no wrong.

Carlos was solo on this 1969 debut album.  Neal Schon joined on the third album and several tracks of the 4th, then he was off to Journey.

Hi Bill Tks for you comment to that. Never tried it but can feel some of it. music accompanied me through life. Thanks so much for your work. Love RP

Of course "Ba, Ba, Lo" is just overkill!
Mr. Santana just sold one of his properties in Hawaii for a cool $12mil....In my next life I want to be a rock and roll guitarist!
Man, how did Carlos Santana go from this to doing a collaboration with Matchbox Twenty?

Musicians, stay true to your roots!

Funny that miahfost was being the very thing they were pointing out about Carlos & Co.  ("so frickin' boring and repetitive")
simply heard this song too many times.

That's just brilliant, the segue from Papa Wemba to Santana's Jingo.   I am suddenly filled with expectant delight.  What's next?  Is this a mini set trio?  I can't even begin to posit the next song
Classic. Can never tire of hearing this. Reminds me of so many weddings
Sometimes I remember that in 1999 the Powers That Be hitched Mr. Santana here to Matchbox 20, produced maybe one of the worst turds ever to be broadcast 1 billion times, and then we were all just cool with it
I had a friend that called him Satana for close to a year after being introduced to his music. We were all gutted when someone corrected him.

One of the best album covers. Paper tickets for some of the shows had the album cover on the stub.

Like all of the first 3 albums and a large chunk of all subsequent. But nothing in his/their large subsequent catalog beats the initial trilogy.

Sounds like you've just mounted a hobbyhorse. Jingoism, at least in the UK, is used exclusively to refer to nationalist zealots and bellicose patriots. Rabid patriotism is not a characteristic of left-wing movements. It would simply make no sense to refer to, say, Noam Chomsky or Michael Moore (quit hissing at the back there!) as 'jingoists'. You'll have to dig out a more appropriate insult, I'm afraid.

I don't think jingoism as personified by nationalist zealots and bellicose patriots is purely a right wing frame of mind.  It is more a symptom of human nature.   Stalinist Russia and Maoist China come to mind, both of which were far left and quite jingoistic.  North Korea is an extreme case.

Disliking Santana's music does not automatically make someone "closed to alternate cultural values".  It is likely that there are a certain percentage of people who resist music from other cultures, but probably not so much with Carlos' music - at least not here.  I think a lot of folks are just tired of hearing his tunes for all these years.
A piece of me died while watching this year's New Years festivities in Times Square (on TV).... Carlos onstage with Justin Bieber was more than I could process. o_O

Your definition is not entirely accurate: the Oxford English Dictionary defines "jingoism" as "extreme patriotism in the form of aggressive foreign policy".  The English exclamation "by jingo" goes back to the 17th Century as a polite form of "by Jesus".
Apparently the word has both meanings in Spanish as well.
