The continent of Atlantis was an island
Which lay before the great flood
In the area we now call the Atlantic Ocean.
So great an area of land,
That from her western shores

To the South and the North Americas with ease,

Across a short strait of sea miles.
The great Egyptian age is
But a remnant of The Atlantian culture.
The antediluvian kings colonised the world
All the Gods who play in the mythological dramas
In all legends from all lands were from far Atlantis.
Knowing her fate,
Atlantis sent out ships to all corners of the Earth.
On board were the Twelve:
The poet, the physician, The farmer, the scientist,
The magician and the other so-called Gods of our legends.
Though Gods they were -
And as the elders of our time choose to remain blind
Let us rejoice

And dance and ring in the new Hail Atlantis!

What a classic song from my youth. As well as the standards, Mellow, Sunshine, Hurdy and Maria Magenta. I listened regularly growing up. But when YES chose Donavan as their opening act in the mid 70's, I was psyched. Just him in a whicker chair and his guitar. Scottish Bliss!

First time I've heard this on RP, but I'm familiar with this track and I've always liked it. In its stoned hippie lyrics, it's more unique, thoughtful and evocative than some might believe. Which is one reason I've always liked it. Who were the rest of the 12? The great Egyptian age was over 4,000 years ago. And it's a remnant? Food for thought. Hippy dippy but ya gotta love it. Reminds me of pining over my first girlfriend in like 4th or 5th grade at an art fest in Austin, Texas called "Fiesta". I was hanging out but too shy to talk to her. I remember hearing this song over the speaker.
I saw him open for Yes (Going for the One tour) and he was promoting his latest record ("Donovan" which was quite good).
He did this and I got shivers when he said "Hail Atlantis..." along with every single other person in the auditorium.
It was really special seeing him, honestly. The folks that were the right age to see Yes were also the right age to remember and appreciate how good Donovan is/was. His Sutras album is also quite pleasant.
