Dave has certainly written some great songs, seems to have a good sense of humor, and I´ve heard he is a regular nice guy.  Saw DMB in concert a few times many years ago, and definitely enjoyed it - good energy and lots of groove. FWIW...

This is a god song but my main problem with this band is that after a while songs get "noisy", becoming an instrumental  cacophony akin to a murder of crows in the afternoon, rather than a harmonious unit... and don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed Robert Fripp, Frank Zappa and even Edgar Varese so I'm not against disonance... Anyway, my two cents in case anybody cares

DMB is all groove.  I will not speak for all of their songs but, the ones that I know (and I know many), always return to the original groove. I submit that you may have been tuning out early as is your right, but that your assertion is incorrect.

In an interview I heard with the great Gavin Harrison, he says that it's the drummer's job to make keeping time in the band interesting. Carter Beauford is from that school, for sure. He is locked in with Dave's interesting approach to song writing and playing.

I am not a huge DMB fan, but it does bug me whenever I read comments on any of his songs here on RP. It's equivalent to grade school bullying the way so many listeners feel the need to rush to the comment section whenever they hear a DMB song just to comment on their hate for this man's music. I'm giving this song a 9 for that reason.

Just saw him in Toronto on Saturday with my two adult daughters. Played for three hours, peddle to the metal. High energy. A man of few words between songs, though. His set was a bit disappointing, actually. Ignored many of the classics. I know he was promoting the new CD. His encore tended to kill all the excitement, I felt. Also, having seen him for the first time, I noticed how each song was about 12 min. long. Solos from his supporting cast over and over. Amazing show, no doubt. But ... maybe I was hoping for more.

I couldn't agree more with these sentiments.  Being a big DMB fan it has been difficult to attend shows in the past due to the antics of the "fans".  However, the knuckle-headed frat-boy jackasses that attended DMB shows in the early aughts have been forced to grow up, get jobs, and become reasonably decent productive citizens.  You might find the crowd more palatable and easy to get along with now... and the shows are as good as ever.

I caught a live recording on Palladia this week (at Piedmont - 2007 I think) and I have to say the drummer has the most infectious smile. Just watching him made me want to be there. Of course I am biased - I saw them at Red Rocks in 95, third row. How could you not like them?

And yes, just because a group gets played on the radio does not negate their talent!!!

Yes, it is basically the Lillywhite Sessions, with some different or enhanced arrangements. JTR, a great song that they did live for awhile, and a few others did not end up on Busted Stuff. I'd add that I liked the version of Digging a Ditch better on the Lillywhites. The sax/violin part was more prominent and lilting.

Having hit songs that people like and playing said songs for people who like them does NOT equal "selling out". God FORBID an artist appeal to a wide audience, thereby ensuring they can continue to make music for years to come. I don't understand where people get the notion that popularity equates to the artist losing their soul. Sometimes it happens as a result but it is not automatic. Because really, DMB sucks for lots of other reasons besides their popularity.
