Every day I wake up and it's Sunday
Whatever's in my eye won't go away
The radio is playing all the usual
And what's a Wonderwall anyway

Because my inside is outside
My right side's on my left side
Cause I'm writing to reach you now but
I might never reach you
Only want to teach you
About you
But that's not you

It's good to know that you are home for Christmas
It's good to know that you are doing well
It's good to know that you all know I'm hurting
It's good to know I'm feeling not so well

Because my inside is outside
My right side's on my left side
Cause I'm writing to reach you now but
I might never reach you
Only want to teach you
About you
But that's not you
Do you know it's true
But that won't do

Maybe then tomorrow will be Monday
And whatever's in my eye should go away
But still the radio is playing all the usual
And what's a Wonderwall anyway

Because my inside is outside
My right side's on my left side
Cause I'm writing to reach you now but
I might never reach you
Only want to teach you
About you
But that's not you
Do you know it's true
But that won't do
And you know it's you
I'm talking to

I saw Travis open for Oasis in Berkeley once. I liked Travis more, actually. They seemed like they hadn't sanded off all of the corners and edges to get just the right sound. A little more real, if not with quite so much of that fire that lights a band's way to superstardom. More genuine. They played this song and we enjoyed it double. Once for the song and once for the thought of how awkward backstage must have been with Oasis and their egos ostentatiously not hearing that line from Travis. Or maybe I should have more faith in people. Maybe Oasis were big about it.

Not hard to like Travis more than Oasis.
Every song on every Travis album is a fucking gem. I simply don’t understand any hate - they are impeccable songwriters and emoters.

It would be perfect if this song followed "Wonderwall" Bill!

Interesting unusual chord modulation there. Have to try to figure that out and play it. Like this more now than at first.
"my inside is outside"

you should probably see a doctor about that...
What is a Wonderwall anyway? Great line
Yeah - what IS a wonderwall? Can’t stand Oasis. Travis are ok if a bit whiny/samey

Opinions eh? I reckon Foo Fighters only ever made it because of the Nirvana connection - Grohl cannot sing, they're just SO overrated. They have something of a reputation for being a good live act, but if the tunes are crap why would I see them live? On the other side of the coin, Fran Healy's voice is sweet & blooming gawjus [sic].

Well since Dave has more money then you will see in your lifetime your opinion means shit steelydan

Merrry Chrristmas, RRP!!
Tie this song in with some Del Amitri and Snow Patrol. Add some Eddi Reader and we could have a real Scottish set!

the wonderwall thing was bugging them when they wrote this album, another and much better song has these lyrics

'cause there is no design for life  (manic st preachers)
theres no devils haircut in my mind (Beck)
there is not a wonderwall to climb or step around (oasis)

OHHH 'kinell.  Not this tripe.  Blahhhhhhhhh!!!!!.
Introspective and thoughtful along with being melodic. Good ingredients for a tune that will stay in my brain til I'm sick of it. I'm not sick of it yet. Not sure I ever will be.
Only 193 shopping days to Christmas

Totally agree. "The Invisible Band" was a slight drop off, and then they pretty much tanked, for me anyway. I've enjoyed a song here or there off of each of their albums since the first two, but I can't say I've listened straight thru to anything other than their first two CD's in a long, long time.

"Wonderwall =

Apparently it's either
A: Something that causes great awe and wonder
B: Someone you are infatuated with
C: Someone you are in infatuated with but cannot be with because they have put up a "wall" that blocks love (and some forms of sunlight, happy radiation, and very small puppies... I don't think that's part of the definition, but it sounded good)."

Holy Old Memories.  Whhoah.

In Jerusalem there's a wall where people weep (without wonder)

this album was the best they did for my money
I spun this album to death in high school... +1 for nostalgia value

I love that line too! A not so subtle dig at Oasis.
Wow, I haven't heard Travis in ages - thanks RP!!!  Love these guys {#Drummer}

Oh yeah, I'd like to see your neighbor's dog lick his own balls and drag his butt across the carpet . . . oh, I think I have that backwards.  {#Yell}

Something about this reminds me of Torn by Natalie Imbruglia...a little anemic, but not bad.
Yeah, the groove and tempo are very similar. There's even similarities in the arrangement. I prefer "Torn", honestly. :)
I recently saw these guys in Cologne. After the warming-up band had left the stage the lights went out and the Rocky-theme started playing. Spotlight on the back of the hall where the guys from Travis march in - wearing classic boxing-capes, walking straight through the audiance towards the stage. I was standing right there with my girl and they said hi and shook our hands. That was one fine evening.

I bought the album because of this quite likeable tune. Anybody want to buy a used CD? I've probably listened to it 3 times in 2 years. Can't stay awake.

It's a common harmonic movement used in a great many songs in popular music. The I, V, vi, and IV chords are practically all that get used on a guitar.

Bump!

I'm cleaning right now, and just picked up a CD that was on the floor. As soon as I picked it up... this song started playing and the CD in my hands happened to be the only Travis disc I own, "12 Memories." Hah.
i really enjoy this album.
great band ... but this one's beginning sounds like wonderwall by oasis. Well you can sing the melody on it ... maybeeee......
this song used to break my heart when I was away in the UK and this album first came out. it still rings true today.
how important was McCartney for travis singer?....however, I really love this band and his music!
worst band in the world..... ever!
THANK YOU RP! I love TRAVIS. Haven't heard them in a while....

I agree. Without even listening to the words, I can feel the emotion in his voice.
Great transition from Foo Fighters' "Times Like These".
Travis makes me wanna curl up and watch the rain - it's creative, get under my skin, yummy-ness

The beginning is indeed "Wonderwall" just much faster... Like it :-)
holy crap! It blows you away with all its goodie-ness! 9/ 10 ! If a song could explode your speakers without actually blowing them up, this song is what could do just that.

Somehow, this feels like the formula radio-play song I listen to RP to avoid.. uck.

At the start of this song, I thought that it was a cover of "Wonderwall" by Oasis.
