Yes.  And the first line there should settle the question of whether this is a "bolero" or not -- a classic bolero is in 3/4 time.  Zumurud is in 4/4.
The other question, whether this is some interpretation of Ravel's Bolero, is not as easily disputed, even though it's clearly not.  It may make you feel the same way when you listen to it, but it's just not Ravel's piece at all.

I don't care!  I like this tune.  EXCELLENT TUNE!!  I just listen to it.  I do not want to get over-analytical about it!   Thanx RP!

As far as I can determine, no one has referenced the similarity to Dead Can Dance...which is plainly obvious to me, but to no  one else clearly.  Weird stuff that...

Same set 3 years later - and that is NOT a complaint. If its not broke why fix it?

EXCELLENT!!  RP introduced me to him, now I like a lot of his music.  Thanx RP!
Can't not see the Sufi Whirling Dervishes in my head whenever I hear this song.

It is great posts like this which remind me that I really don't know shit...
Bill and Rebecca, I hope you have as much fun playing this music as we have listening!

I never did.

My nephew, he heard my stories about Ab and found my old maps when my sister cleaned out the cabin after the big burn. My nephew headed out to the Ucayali, promising he'd stay in touch.

He did.
i think its a little boring {#Boohoo}

True musical genius.

This may be the tune that plays in the heads of Brady, Mahomes and Rodgers as they assess opportunity downfield. Zen masters ignore chaos and focus on the task.

I wonder if Mich and Zoe Keating would ever collaborate, that might be interesting.
I like this more every time I hear it.
Sounds like Lorena McKennitt

Haunting music, great bass
!)
Just heard this and thought it was a "remix" of Ravel's Balero for a while. It's not but it has the same relentless pace.
Fun and games this morning.  First the lyrics to Harry Manx "Your Sweet Name" don't match, now the Wiki link to this artist is for Bajka Pluwatsch.  Are you broken or is it me, do you think?
It always great to hear Mich, I just wonder how he sounds live ?

Very enjoyable Bolero variation!
hauntingly beautiful . can't wait to see what will be played after this
Nice :)
That's great!!!!!{#Heartkiss} a mystic swissman
Good for the blood pressure (much needed these days). Gives me the sensation of being on a camel back, swaying slightly to a leisurely pace, hot sun but by some strange happenstance I have a frosty glass of lemonade in my hand. Go figure.

Awesome!
So beautiful,
so hypnotic {#Music}
 3 times in one month is not a lot.  Much less than what you get with other stations.  I guess you must have RP on at all times!

One of the first songs we heard after we discovered Radio Paradise in 2011/12, still love it (and RP!)!
Hypnotic, just right for a surreal day here in Maine.

Playing in our coffee shop and rather enjoyable.

Ah shit, way too short....
Running out the door turned to an excellent excuse to slow down for a while.  Thanks Bill ! !
I love a bit of Ravel!
I am from Switzerland, so it is nice to hear Mich Gerber - who lives in the same city as I - here on Radio Paradise. I like his music, and I like this radio :-)
Ugh. from Hooverphonic to this grating noise.  Bill, when you're playing light rock, please don't segue it into 5 minutes of Middle East violin stuff.

..my soul could rest on these notes, slip through a starry night and pass galaxies to the edge

Give me a break, this song goes on wayyy too long.
{#Sunny} What a nice tune! Thanks for that!
Still looking it!

Mich Gerber and Zumurud, I can only thank you for such a wonderful ride ….{#Hearteyes}

I love this tune
'Endless String' - key word: endless. simply too long, got tedious. PSD was my saviour. ;-)
I t sounds like snake charming music. I must admit I m charmed by it. I m going to check out the album. Rating: 7.8

Exactly!

There are some timbres and resonances that only wood instruments can propagate...and I gotta dig the mind &hands that create them!
Cool song.  {#Guitarist}

A song that rewards repeated listenings - the variations are subtle.

I'd love to see him live.

 This has been in rotation at RP for a while.  I once fell asleep listening to this song while in front of my PC.  My hands were on the keyboard at the time I drifted off.  I awoke to find me screen full of "Rs."

Given a choice I Would pick Rockaway because it's got sand dunes, nothing wrong with Coney Island though.
First time tuning in for a while (travelling) so now it's watching cruise ships slip their berths in another place, still perfect.

Always reminds me of this:

Allegro non troppo - Bolero (1977) by Cartoonzof2006

Sort of a film about evolution.  Remember watching it late at night as a filler for "premium" cable channels... Cinemax I think {#Wink}

P.S. So in view of your comment mread ALL Bolero compositions will sound exactly if not Identical to 'Ravels' as all waltzes and other forms of dance music will sound identical,  ??

mread wrote:

Nope.  'Course not.  Your original comment was:
It is 'Bolero'' and a very good rendition of it as well I doubt very much if Ravel would dislike it.

Perhaps I misunderstood your meaning.  You capitalized "Bolero" and attributed "it" to Ravel in the same sentence, implying that Zumurud is something like a cover version of Ravel's Bolero, which it is not.  I agree with you that it's a bolero (lower-case "b"), but it's not Ravel's... different melody, lacks the key change near the end, etc.
