when years pass between us
and the light shines on the water
I ask please for one thing
leave shelter when it's raining

decisions in blueprint
so nervous and deceiving
in concrete these structures
that our small hands
just keep building

through towers and phone lines
connections to each other
I wonder who's watching
as light shines on the water

when the stars fall beyond us
and our small eyes
just keep watching
I ask please for one thing
leave shelter when it's raining
when it's raining

YAY SAMPLES!!!!!!!!!!!! Viva Colorado!

13 years since it's been commented on!  Please bring back the Samples!
Please bring it back, Richard.  This song is great!
Great song, but you have to check out "Lonely Soul" by this group.
Sounds like they're sampling some early "Police"... gave 'em a "5" for the effort...
At the first couple bars i was expecting "I'm caught in a trap......". Certainly didn't evolve that way!
Nice song - and completely unknown to me before! Thanks again, RP!

I just saw them this year at Red Rocks. They opened for Big Head Todd. I was really impressed with how well they sounded!
YAY SAMPLES!!!!!!!!!!!! Viva Colorado!
lots O memories with the samples ;-)
I want to dance around the room whenever I hear this song.

Whoah -- I was THERE! I was spinning tunes down in the basement of the UMC for KAIR (which then became KUCB), a buddy used to jam on blues-harp with Todd, a girlfriend's friend dated his brother, and the bass player was a hell of a bowler, and Todd never once took off his damn hat, did he? if I recall correctly...although in those days we were all fond of putting some serious fuzz between our synapses at some pretty wild parties, from kitchens with aqua blue formica up on The Hill to rambling ranches out on Valmont Road, and of course there was the freaky Boulder Valley Ranch, etc. And who can forget the Samples playing those living room gigs at 14th and Euclid? Erica? Ashley? You still there? -- Remember? Sort of? Ahh, the vibe, it lives, yet! ... !

They're still around and touring, if anyone's interested.
As a matter of fact, they sound better now live than they have in years.
How the hell did I not have a comment on this song? ANYWAY Glad to hear the Samples again on RP (been a while). Especially glad to hear this - or anything from No Room (their best IMHO). They're still around and touring, if anyone's interested.

Thanks for taking me back to college in the early 90's, volleyball, BBQ's, afternoon beverages and The Samples' "No Room" on repeat...

Old Samples! Thank you, Bill! I grew up listening to these guys back in Vermont!
And you can thank me... it was one of my uploads. Kurt says with a swelled head!
Whoa! The memories this song brings with it! Good times!!! An easy 10 for me ...

I am still shocked that they never did break into the mainstream, but to a certain extent, I'm kind of glad they didn't- No Room has to be one of my favorite Samples albums- takes me straight back to my freshman year of college- THANK YOU BILL!!!!
I couldn't have said it myself. No Room is a classic. Whenever I put it on for friends that haven't heard them before, they all stop and listen.
All I can picture with this song is a room full of heads bopping up and down. Saw them many times in Burlington, VT in the early days - always a good time!
Their new cd, Rehearsing for Life, came out a month or so ago. The disc is okay, but the song Moves Me Like a River is phenomenal... shades of this tune. It's in the LRC now and doing well. Hopefully it makes the cut.

these guys have been through a lot. a long time ago, the Dave Matthews Band opened up for them. lately, they have been in constant flux, going through lots of line-up changes and management changes. sean kelly (lead singer) pushes on. good to hear 'em here.
Indeed, Sean Kelly is the Samples at this point... the only original band member still there. I lost track of them after about 1995/6, and only recently checked out some sample tracks from later albums on iTunes. Sounds a little too familiar so far to justify adding to my five Samples CDs.

one of the more underrated bands that never got beyond their following. Too bad. Great songwriting.

Love me some Samples
Awesome vocals but this annoying early video game sound in the background.....

If you can't hear their influence on Phish, re-listen to this tune. Excellent.
Thanks! I actually bought it the first day and already loaned it out to a friend. I'm itching to get it back. mikedill wrote:

Jeep and Andy are also pushing on nicely in their own directions (Andy's new album came out a week or so ago). I'm not sure what Al/Charles are doing (nor the rest of the other lineups).
