Weary head, lay on my pillow
Come rest your troubles with my troubles for a time
I know, I know the feelin' that I'm seein'
When you lay your body next to mine
Well, the quest for love is lonesome
For the pilgrim on broken hearted road
Just a sigh, you tell a story
Echoing town after town you leave behind
I know, I know the feelin' that I'm feelin'
When you lay your body next to mine
Well, the quest for love is lonesome
For the pilgrim on broken hearted road
Gypsy eyes, your tears are fallin'
I hear the rain beating down a path for you outside
I know, I know the feelin' that I'm feelin'
When you lay your body next to mine
Well, the quest for love is lonesome
For the pilgrim on broken hearted road
Yeah, the quest for love is lonesome
For the pilgrim on broken hearted road

A bit like instrumental trad Irish music - there is a pattern and structure but some people see this as repetition. Me? I love the blues and trad Irish.

I LOVE the blues!  I also like the "Irish Music" that drunks sing in pubs (off key) while swinging their mugs of Guiness back and forth, spilling it all over the place!!  Now, I can not stand "Irish Folk Music" & any music with bagpipes!  Everybody has their own tastes! I think that this is a GREAT TUNE!!   Thanx RP!

The blues are "repetitive" for a reason. There is a pattern of chords, meter, and song structure that must be followed.  The blues are like sonnets or haiku which also have strict patterns.   Their beauty is how the author weaves words or melodies within the pattern.

If a song doesn't fit the pattern, it may be great rock-and-roll, but it ain't the blues.

Thank you Bill - I was thinking that there must be more of Sonny on rotation than Congo Square, which I seem to hear frequently.

Thank you Bill, for introducing me to this talented guitarist!  I added this album to my rock playlist, and absolutely love cranking the volume every time one of his songs plays!  A concert with him and  Dick Dale would probably get me rockin' the dance floor like I did in the 70's (albeit for much shorter stints)
I keep hearing Robin Trower.

You can take some slide guitar lessons from Sonny Landreth, but can you play as well as him?

I sure can't.

John Hiatt is touring with Sonny Landreth - they'll be in San Francisco at the end of January. Catch 'em live if you can.

One of few who picks with all 5 fingers.  I like him best when he plays with Hiatt.

Wow. Incredible slide work. Thanks for bringing this to us. Agree with the others, it would be great to see Sonny play, hope he comes to the west coast after the southern leg of his tour.

Saw him on the West Coast a couple of years ago; it was a "kings of the Guitar" night. for my money, he more than held his own with the likes of Colin Linden and Steve Dawson (slide). The man is the real thing. No posturing, no posing, no anguished grimaces, just pure, clean, Ok nasty guitar riffs licks and picks.
Tasty!        {#Bananajam}
Reminds me of Robin Trower.
Wow.  Play the blues, Sonny.
More, please!

Never heard before but I like it.
Sonny, please tour the midwest.

Seen you twice but not recently.

How about summer shows in the corn belt?

Had the privilege of seeing Sonny this past weekend at the Bonita Blues Festival. Mel Melton sat in on the harp. Sonny's slide-work is absolutely mesmerizing. He is rightly proclaimed as the world's greatest slide guitarist. Just an incredibly great show by an incredibly gifted artist. {#Guitarist}{#Notworthy}
He's on tour with Cindy Cashdollar (just the two of them, not backing band) right now.  Saw them last night @ the Narrows in Fall River.  He is a monster player...

Haven't heard him in 20 years but from what I remember, Tab Benoit's a lot more diverse. This song is a yawner for me.

Two little known bargains in live music, the BR Bluesfest and Festival International de Louisiane in Lafayette. The first is held on April 14, the second April 23-27. That's the weekend before and the first weekend of the very pricey New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. Acts appearing at Jazzfest often drop in to these nearby free festivals. As a bonus, the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival is held during the second weekend of Jazzfest.

A good time to hang out in South Louisiana,

That hillside? Earthworks for the Old State Capitol, a building Mark Twain called the ugliest on the Mississippi. No hills in Baton Rouge. Also, Sonny Landreth is good, but fellow Lafayette-area thrasher Tab Benoit will blow your head off.

WOW
The world's most accomplished and original guitarist? Many believe so. Pass him the Hendrix mantle.
My question is, are you born a "Sonny" or do you have to become a great hack man to achieve the monicker? Maybe my parents new when I was born that I wasn't going to have the ability to play the guitar . . . hence no "Sonny" for me!

Bad. Ass.

That is all.
Very , very nice!

I've never been able to bring myself to grant a song a 1, especially here on RP. Just the effort it takes for an artist to present an interpretation of an idea, song, or melody, that alone should give them a "Ho Hum". But lo, I am the proud owner of a Shaggs album....

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxPsXPCR5MU

Oh wait, I take that back. I think I gave the Queen song a 1. Heavens....
Saw Sonny last week,  guitarist sans pareille, not overly mannered but pushing the techniques to the limit. We were also 10 feet away from his fingers - amazing indeed.

Sonny Landreth is the best dang slide guitarist ever! I've been a fan since 90s and made the highest bid in a charity auction to get a gorgeous sunburst, bird's eye maple, electric-acoustic guitar he'd signed (Cities '97, 1995 MN State Fair). Then in 2010 went to the Baton Rouge Blues Fest, a small neighborly venue with maybe 100 people sitting on a hillside in the sun, where I watched him play this song from 10' away - just amazing. I then bought his latest CD, he signed it as I told him about the guitar I'd picked up 14 years previous, he then reached out to shake my hand. He's a genuine genius guitarist, for sure!!!  https://www.sonnylandreth.com/

Old:  LOL!  If Hendrix had lived then.....maybe.  It do boggle the mind what he might have accomplished if he hadn't flamed out.  But we'll never know, eh?  (I do not agree that it's better to burn out than fade away).

I'm going with a 9 for the bass player, the song, and Sonny's wonderfully original slide guitar style. YES!

Landreth is well respected in the industry, exudes talent, and kicks ass playing the blues.
I don't see why the detractors even listen to music. One doesn't have to like the genre
to appreciate it. Hey, I may not like Hank Williams or Johnny Cash, but I sure as hell wouldn't
be giving them a 1. Perhaps a couple quarters of Art Appreciation or a couple of years of
guitar lessons would/could extract some of their respect for a guy as gifted a Landerth..

Preaching to the choir, That_SOB. Try to think of it like this:  If we didn't have those "one" votes, we'd really have no way to gauge whether the rating system even worked. Personally, I welcome the "1" votes, especially if someone who voted that way posted a comment to accompany it. I check their profiles to see what they think merits a 10. It's actually quite fun, and yet another way to be interactive with the other RPeeps.

Then again, sometimes I'll give a song a "1" because I'm just having a really crappy day. {#Whistle}

RP has done - I've heard two Joe Bonamassa tracks recently on RP, and they're both the rockin' dog's bollox. Not that Sonny Landreth is any slouch as a blues rock guitarist, and the more I hear from him on RP the more likely it is I'll be reaching for the plastic to add yet another CD to my burgeoning collection. 8 from the Nottingham jury.

Yes, and that would be the DVD "A Night In London". And for example the song "Blue Tarp Blues" from Sonny's latest album (From The Reach) features Mark Knopfler.

Sonny also, i believe, used to be the guitarist for John Hiatt's band. John Hiatt also occasionally plays along on Sonny's records...
