You obviously don't "get it" and like lyrics that are more straight forward.

For me, the song conveys that we all have the ability to offer grace and forgiveness, and that one mistake does not define a person in totality.

Some different Lap Steel Pedal Guitar ...
There are some songs by electronic band, The Orb.
One featuring David Gilmore, I noticed. A special live version maybe...
Also, there is a band called Duet with Theremin that features Theremin and steel guitar.
They are an electronic duo with a somewhat improvisational approach to playing ambient music. Very entertaining to see and hear live. I videotaped a song being performed live with a guest vocalist on vimeo, if you are curious. 
And for trivia... an electronic band that recorded a country song... : )
Tammy Wynette is featured singing with the KLF on a version of their song Justified & Ancient. 
Fun, actually. It sounds great.

There are some in blues and folk genres, but not very many.  Robert Randolph may be one of the best known; check out his videos - he plays blues, rock and funk stuff.  It is odd that doesn't seem to be widely accepted outside of country/bluegrass genres.

There are a few "outliers" - Robert Randolph (who plays rock, blues, soul, and funk styles) is probably one of the more widely known.

Apropos of nothing, I saw the Steel Audreys swan song  album release last night. Sad story about Derek Kehler and his girlfriend, but a really nice tribute to him and his vision.
All in all, just good music and he will be missed.
And now, back to your program.

Thanks to RP, I discovered the Audreys (through this very song). So glad I decided to by this whole disc. Every track is at least decent, many are great, and "Small Things" is transcendent.
