When you sit and just listen to this song, taking in each note, it is very moving.

The only thing worst than pop songs for strings is children's choirs trying and failing to sing pop. 

It's a fine melody, but there's too much Coldplay left in it... I just can't appreciate this version on it's own. A cover needs to be really different/re-imagined for it to work. Like Joe Cocker or The Piano Guys. Or ever Deep Purple's Beatles covers, but I think I am unusual in liking those.

What say you RP community?  I am sure this Lyric has been discussed plenty, but thus far my web-search for its meaning has not satisfied my curiosity, so I post here, on a discussion thread for a version of the song without the lyrics, asking about the lyrics..  Genius!!  I guess that shows my level of respect for the opinions of RP listeners ;-) 

Having been lucky enough to not have been a victim to the overplay of Coldplay, I don't think I ever heard this song until it was used brilliantly in a "Newsroom" scene. It will be forever associated with Will McAvoy in my psyche. 

 

Don't like the original song, this is much more better version - wonderful strings!

Whilst I appreciate the incredible talent of the musicians and the incredible sound of these fine strings, the problem is...

... well, the problem is the original song was completely murdered by being overplayed and overplayed and overplayed.

Couple that with the fact that, well, Cold Play are just a *little* bit fond of themselves and perhaps a tad, how can I put this politely, oh sod it, "up their own arses" (to quote a quaint english saying)

 Still, I can understand why people love this, just a pity about the melody. It's the musical equivalent of the titanic movie.

This should be playing in the background of the chase/emergency/critical point of a romantic drama just before it resolves in a near-thing-but-positive fashion. It just seems applicable. This could also be because I haven't had enough coffee.

I wonder if I would have liked this, had I not already been exposed to the original (which I dislike intensely).  The arrangement isn't bad, but I can't get past that cloying melody.  I have to agree with a lot of the posts below...sometimes when one takes an annoying song, instrumentalizes it, the result is even more annoying Muzak.

Please play this song in hell for those who deserve extra punishment.

I don't really need this instrumental cover, but it does serve to highlight what a powerful melody the original song had.

Part of me would love to be able to hate on Coldplay, but I find it pretty hard to do.

I love a good mournful string cover, but after an initial 7, I had to downgrade to a 6 because of this overplayed song's increasing association with any kind of elimination scene in every kind of reality show. Cue the slow motion hug montage!

I will pay money if you promise to NEVER PLAY THIS AGAIN. For god's sake.

This song is haunting in its original form (which I really love), but this version is haunting (in a good way) as well.
