Thank you for the days
Those endless days, those sacred days you gave me
I'm thinking of the days
I won't forget a single day, believe me

I bless the light
I bless the light that lights on you, believe me
And though you're gone
You're with me every single day, believe me

Days I'll remember all my life
Days when you can't see wrong from right
You took my life
But then I knew that very soon you'd leave me
But it's alright
Now I'm not frightened of this world, believe me

I wish today could be tomorrow
The night is dark
It just brings sorrow anyway

Thank you for the days
Those endless days, those sacred days you gave me
I'm thinking of the days
I won't forget a single day, believe me

Days I'll remember all my life
Days when you can't see wrong from right
You took my life
But then I knew that very soon you'd leave me
But it's alright
Now I'm not frightened of this world, believe me
Days

Thank you for the days
Those endless days, those sacred days you gave me
I'm thinking of the days
I won't forget a single day, believe me

I bless the light
I bless the light that shines on you, believe me
And though you're gone
You're with me every single day, believe me

Their live album, “one for the road” is outstanding and a good intro to this hugely influential band. One of the few acts whose live shows were awesomely better than their records

Love all versions of this song, but Kirsty McColl does it for me - poignant considering how she left us

My radio station plays The Kinks.

I am not worthy, not worthy at all.

I saw them live a couple of times in the mid to late 80s. Yes, wonderfully loud and SO EFFING GREAT. Love the Kinks forever, especially deep tracks like this!

Not familiar with this one tune but I agree with most that the Kinks have been forgotten as a very influential British Invasion band over the years.

Shame

wasn't there a visa problem with one of the Kinks and they couldn't come into the USA?
some say that's why they never hit it as big as they should here because they couldn't promote themselves here

Hear! Hear!

Reminds me of a folksier, less flashy version of XTC. The Kinks have unjustly been relegated to the past, but I suspect they have a lot of great music that would stand on its own if aired more often these days.

I've sadly never heard her version - now I really want to! She was a great talent to have lost so soon :(

I love this song. Can we hear Kirsty MacColl's version too? Lovely on a nice sunny day.

I think it's a catchy song. Could be the Shins or something new but it's 43 years old!!

Great to hear this.  Ray Davies meant more to me in the 60s and 70s than those Beatle boys did!

I came to post almost the same thing — I only knew of Elvis Costello's version on the Until The End Of The World soundtrack.  Not sure if I really like either version, but thank you RP for educating me on the original!!  {#Wink}

Awesome interpretation!!! The strength of the English to persevere and make the most of it. Or just Ray Davies' genius

Life without kinks would be a sad life. They can sing about happiness and misery and make it hard to tell them apart.

How can you "not stand the Kinks"? I can understand how someone might not place them in the Pantheon of Rock—they may not get a bunch of "Godlike"s but certainly they merit more than share of "Most Excellent"s. Even at their worst it seems like a "ho hum" would be their nadir. Oh well, I suppose one man's "Most Excellent" is another man's "fingernails on a blackboard."

Yea, I feel ya. Just never liked them at all and when I keep hearing people say like the greatest band ever and so on, it just hardens Pharoahs heart, ya know?
sacred days
I lost track of the Kinks after "Sunny Afternoon" in the late sixties or so.   But they have a huge catalog of music, and it's nice to hear something that, to me, is new!
This song came as a total surprise, especially 2 songs after Foo Fighters. This kind of mix (and no ads) is what makes RP the greatest channel on the planet!
I know this song from Elvis Costello's version on "Kojak Variety", but I had completely forgotten how the original sounds.

Its not bad but not one of their best...
Sweet!
