Radio, live transmission

Listen to the silence, let it ring on
Eyes, dark grey lenses, frightened of the Sun
We would have a fine time living in the night
Left to blind destruction, waiting for our sight

We would go on as though nothing was wrong
Hide from these days, we remained all alone
Staying in the same place, just staying out the time
Touching from a distance, further all the time

Dance, dance, dance, dance, dance to the radio
Dance, dance, dance, dance, dance to the radio
Dance, dance, dance, dance, dance to the radio
Dance, dance, dance, dance, dance to the radio

Well, I could call out when the going gets tough
The things that we've learnt are no longer enough
No language, just sound, that's all we need know
To synchronise love to the beat of the show

And we could dance
Dance, dance, dance, dance, dance to the radio
Dance, dance, dance, dance, dance to the radio
Dance, dance, dance, dance, dance to the radio
Dance, dance, dance, dance, dance to the radio

An interesting (to me, anyway) movie about Ian Curtis. I thought it was very well done.

Completely agree.  Actor was riveting.

i'm i just cant see how losing a limb affect the vocal chords?

never heard this tune before, everyone just plays "love will tear us apart again"
but  i knew it was Curtis singing straight away
Apparently they wanted to be opposite of disco.. (Except for the ‘dance’ part and ‘radio’ part.)

Sometimes usernames can be telling.
"The longevity of Elder Goths" is the subject of this article: https://www.washingtonpost.com...
My wife is an ex-Hacienda girl, being a Salford lass she always got free admission. Will love Joy Division 'til her dying day. TBH though, she prefers New Order 😍.

Love this, but the Weather Station does a completely rockin' cover (with banjo!)

Decries the autotune generation

Just more awesome than words can convey.
He was a trip to see live.

That's not the point.
Uptempo, dark, gothic... how can you not like?

Would say more comparable to Tool/Perfect Circle than to Devo

Devo started out in the mid-1970s, but I get what you're saying.
Great retro mix go'n down this morning!
The purists will wanna kill me for saying this but New Order was an improvement. Temptation, Everything's Gone Green, Blue Monday, Your Silent Face were all a step up.

Still love this some nearly 35 years on. Went to university in Manchester because of this band..... been there ever since. Saw them twice before Ian Curtis committed suicide and then saw New Order many times after that, but as good as New Order were they lost something special when they lost Ian. Their influence is still there today... not many bands can say that!

Never took infatuation to quite such an extent... but can understand your reasoning!
Joy Division  -  Exceptional!  (new U2, meh)

For sure.  You nailed it.

Absolutely! Love their unique sound; it still holds up well after all these decades without sounding dated.

One of those bands that I could never understand the appeal of. Different strokes I guess.

with a lil bit of Bauhaus mixed in.  {#Angel}
jim morrison?
Is this from their spinoff group The Angst Division?

Great movie, but this band is totally overrated I think. Or can someone explain to me what is so brilliant about this monotonous sound, except for maybe the attitude that it radiates?

It's no great mystery. This band's music resonates with a lot of people, just not you.
blast from the past!

Oh well if it has Adam Carolla it must be good. NOT. Your zinger lost all its snap when you put Adam in the picture.

Just checked out Wikipedia's article on "The Gong Show with Dave Attell." Andy Dick was actually a judge. Jesus, I thought Hollywood had bound and gagged him into a steamer trunk and dropped him into the Mariana Trench. His last name truly suits him.

Read my mind last night. Thanks RP!

Awesome song in every way. Dark, powerful, very real. Keep playing this! By the way this whole CD is essential listening.

I'll second that.
Ian Curtis here sounds a bit like the late singer for the Cramps, Lux Interior.

The only Joy Division song I was familiar with before this was "Love Will Tear Us Apart" which I suspect is far better than anything else they did. This is interesting but it's a bit dated...

marvelous...  everybody in my church be dancing madly...

wonderful......
I was just thinking about this song yesterday, along with the song 'Blue Monday'. I was thinking about the transition of Joy Division (with Ian Curtis) to New Order (the new wave dance group). I've not heard Transmission in years. Still very interesting material. As always, a great writeup of New Order on Wikipedia for those of you wanting to know more about the history of the band.
Needs to be retired and stored away... never to be heard again.....

DOES NOT age well

Hairs in the back of the neck stuff....
this is soooo appreciated music....
dance dance dance dance dance to the radio!

Every single Joy Division introduction causes an emotional, visceral reaction. Great stuff.
Was initially surprised to see it wasn't in the playlist yet,
but it is now!
Thanks!
It's always great to ignore popularity for a moment to hear a band's early experimentations with their sound. I don't know how privy the RP audience is to Joy Division: the remaining members later became New Order after Joy Division's lead singer, Ian Curtis, committed suicide on the eve before their first American tour. They were a great band. Still love hearing their earlier work with Ian.
hummmmm, glad y'all like it and it's always good to hear something new, can't say it did much for me on first listen.
YES!

i've always loved this song.
it'll be interesting to hear what everybody else thinks

great add to the playlist!

You can never have enough Joy Division
YES - BRING IT!!!!  LONG overdue here on RP!  Definitely need more Joy Division.
Groovy
Thank-you Bill!
