It's less about bigotry than laziness.  American school kids today are far less encouraged to learn a second language than their international counterparts are encouraged to learn English.  I don't see too much "professing" of what is "right/better", just an organic shift due to how much US culture is exported via popular media and the Internet.

Wonder what the problem is, since the mix is supposed to be World/Etc. Either some people find out they really don't like World music, or they don't realize that they're not in the Main, Mellow, or Rock mixes.

Also not sure why the name Eclectic mix was changed to World/Etc -- is it because it sounded a little judgmental? I could see that one person's World music is another person's Eclectic, especially if one doesn't like the other...

I hear the music, think what the rating will be and then check the RP-website. Hardley ever do my estimated ratings differ more than 0.2 from the actual rating.

On the other hand it's not that difficult. It's nearly always somewhere between 4.8 and 5.8

Wow this is great! I heard it on the RP eclectic channel; wish it would move over to the main channel.

On first listening I award it an '8' which may go up after that. I love the arrangement, the voices, and the frenetic pace.

Agreed.  I give this a 7, I quite enjoy it.  

I am surprised at all the '1's - I can't believe those are accurately attributed - it seems to me like the people who rate stuff on tripadvisor, amazon etc as only 1 star or 5 stars, with no graduation.

For me a '1' = 'make this stop, PSD, move on, my head is not functioning, aaargh, get it off'  (e.g. that godawful Marianne Faithful track which gets lots of airplay here).  Quite rare.

I love Rachid Taha and appreciate that you play him. But there are much better songs in his catalogue. Still, some is better than none, so thanks!!

He doesn't seem to hold a grudge. I saw him and his band live a couple of years ago and they played (a very good version of) Rock the Casbah. Maybe to better claim it as his own?

Thanks for the anecdote, Poose - that's interesting. I quite like the sound of this band, and love the idea of Algerian funk-punk :). This is very RP. 7 from the exotically-minded Nottingham jury.
