It was back in Little Bend that I saw you
Light was changing on the water
Where birds above it flown
There was pain in your eyes
So you vanished in the night
Missouri River in the distance
So I lied upon the lawn

I remember walking against the darkness of the beach
Love is like a ghost in the distance, ever-reached
Travel through the night because there is no fear
Alone but right behind until I watched you disappear

I'm moving through the dark
Of a long black night
Just moving with the moon
And the light it shines
And I'm thinking of a place
And it feels so very real
Just moving through the dark

Once I had a dream I was falling from the sky
Coming down like running water
Passing by myself alight
In the morning, I would wake to the sound of summer falls
Like little whispers through the signs

I'm moving through the dark
Of a long black night
And I'm looking at the moon
And the light it shines
But I'm thinking of a place
And it feels so very real
Oh, it was so full of love!

Come and take my hand, babe
There's a turn in the road that we've been taking
But it'll set you free
Because there's a rhythm in the way that we've been moving
Yeah, there's a darkness over there, but we ain't going

See it through through my eyes
Walk me to the water
Hold my hand and something turns to me
Love me every night
Drown me in the water
Hold my hand and there's something turning me
See it through my eyes
Love me like no other
And hold my hand and something turns to me
And turns me into you

Lead me through the light
Pull me from the water
Hold my hand and something turns to me
Turns me into you
Just see it through my eyes
Love me like no there
Hold my hand and something turns to me
Turns me into you
Turn to me
Into you

A most lovely, textured road trip song if there ever was one.

Being. Not doing,  just being.
What is the point of the last 6, 7 minutes of this song?

🖼️ !
8>9 at the start of the guitar solo!
Thank you RP!

I bought the album on vinyl because of this track. So good.
11:06 minutes...
I use a downloaded stream out in the work area and the Office gets the "live" stream, and both are playing this song. not far off time wise, though the dl had a different song list before this.
great song 🎧

They just did a well-reviewed tour in the UK (summer 2023) so OP looks even sillier.

After years of listening to this transcendent song I finally moved it from a 9 to a 10 where it belongs.
I have developed a Pavlovian response to the intro.  As soon as it starts -- before my brain can even remember the artist or track name -- I feel tension dissolve and I know that for the next 10 minutes nothing will matter.

This song washes over me like warm surf on an August day.  Very soothing.
This gets better every time I hear it.

Это любимая тема дня. И эта музыка во мне уже много-много лет. Желаю вам вдохновения, друзья!

At last - a WOD's track while I'm listening I can now comment - watched their Glastonbury set- first time I've seen them live - they were fantastic - I'm sure being there would have been quite something.  If you've not seen the set, in the UK, it's on BBC iPlayer otherwise it must be out there somewhere
The bridge is simply one of the most worth while things to wait for…
They are called "The war on drugs"... because its going on and on and on...
I still like it!
Is it bigger than a breadbox?
I love this band. Thank you for introducing us RP.
Total masterpiece...bravo RP playing an 11+ minute song!!
STILL love this song!
I like this song....But it sure seems to get a LOT of play here on RP. .
Just as transcendent as the first time I heard it. I could listen all night.
Pretty cool, but a bit too long for me :)

Transcendent transportation.

A magical combination of the sacred and the mundane.

Yeah, I guess if I had to go to The War, I'd want to be on powerful drugs.  That would make me a participant in The War [while]  on Drugs.

As for Nixon's War on Drugs,  I hope my side continues winning!
I applaud these guys for springing something so fresh on us.  The vibe is just addictive.
Thank you RP. This band is one of a lot band discovered on your radio. Music is my life. I discovered many bands and many songs on your radio. Greatings from Transsylvania, Romania. Long live & prosper !
This has to be the WoD pinnacle. You just have to surrender yourself to it for 11 minutes. You'll be glad you did.
Wow, Matte Kudasi by King Crimson, Om by Moody Blues and now this.   That's one hell of a run!!!!

Thanks for the report! Yeah.... next   time I go to a concert of any size, I am bringing acoustical ear plugs.

Like to pretend I can still hear a pin drop in the bush at 80 metres.  Would like to keep that way.

I like it.
The lyrics are idiotic but the melody is very nice

Damn, whatever it is that I am doing when this song comes up, I know I am going to finish it 11 minutes later than planned

Dear Wonderloaf,

I was eastbound on M-57 (also known as Cleveland Road) between Carson City and U.S. 127. I had just given a presentation at the Carson City Public Library and was going home.

Why Carson City? Because I was asked to participate in a Library of Michigan program that connects notable Michigan authors with small-town libraries. (The program has also taken me to Vermontville, Cedarville, Fremont and Presque Isle, although on separate trips.)

Carson City is in Montcalm County. There are approximately 230,000 acres in agriculture in the county. Counties that have agriculture often have farmhouses.

I was driving a GMC Acadia. We specifically leased that vehicle because it could pull a sailboat and had room to move a lot of kids on school field trips and to various summer camps.

I was listening to the RP app with my iPhone plugged into the USB. The vehicle did not have Bluetooth technology.

It snows in Michigan. Even in April.
Just saw WOD on Sunday night…absolutely brilliant! They are a fabulous live act. I've seen them now 4 times and they've never disappointed.

So slippery dreamy.
One of my favorite songs.
The comments on this song are almost as enjoyable as the song itself.  Much love to the RP community.
After hearing War On Drugs I went to their concert here in Charlotte.  Definitely worth the time.

The War on Drugs is thoughtful, modern rock music for adults, which seems in short supply nowadays. And as a bonus, they sound so nostalgic- they remind me of my childhood in the 80s, listening to whatever (usually pretty good) AOR my parents had going in the car on long road trips.

Thank goodness for them.

Don't know.
This first grew on me and then it lost its magic when I heard it again and again. What's left is the impression that it is a little ... corny?
IDK? I keep listening to the entire tune. I am trying to like it. Maybe it will grow on me.

I like your comment, that a War on Drugs is easier to deal with than a war sober..!
its the groove and vibe - you can feel it - its thick and rich
I have no idea why i dig this band, but i do.  Their songs don't rock, nor are they terribly sing-able, but every time this band comes on RP,  i take notice and say, "i totally dig this but i just don't know why."  Thanks, Bill, for introducing me to them.
I love this song and this band!
It's a nice song and all, but 6 times in a month? That's a little much for an established song.
Is there an 11 rating?

You'll get your opportunity to laugh in early-mid 2022 when they tour Europe and the UK. Personally, I'm jealous as they're not scheduled to play near where I live.

This is truly a very lovely song. I've had years to digest it, and even if I go months without hearing it, it still astounds me. He takes his voice through such plaintive emotion, all the while played out against a range of incredible guitar, and sometimes Dylan-esque stylings emerge that really strike me deeply. There is also such a mastery of sound engineering and sonic atmospheres at work here that I am  continually amazed. It's as if it takes my mind out to a moonlit meadow, trips me out to some of my own memories and imaginings, then weaves me back into the present spell of the music again. Bravo!

The sole true classic song in recent years which will stand the test of time like few other songs did (wish you were here for example) - a perfect dramaturgy form its start, through its middle break and fading end, a perfect mood and produced and performed outrageously good

And, I take it you are the self-designated music critic for all of England.  Did Queen Elizabeth die and make you King?  I must have missed that news flash.

This band's sound reminds me of Dire Straits and Talk Talk. But still instantly recognizable.
a 9 from the first listen with a chance of a 10 in the future
Just…. What a band!

Maybe they're not wanted in Doucheland. That's cool.
Invariably, my head lifts up whenever a TWOD tune plays. In a good way.
Few artists can create an entire landscape like this.  Never get tired of this but it sure relaxes me.  Perfection.

I'm not sure that I've ever heard a song that quite so perfectly captures the essence of how nostalgia - the bittersweet, melancholic longing that sits somewhere between your stomach and your heart.

Good catch.   The song tugs.  In a good way.

For me, this kind of nostalgia always speaks to lives well lived.  Why regret or miss a place and time in your life if it was not spiritually, psychically rewarding?

Lives well lived.

Yes, there still is amazing music being created and thanks to outlets such as RP,we can still find it, thanks Adam, thanks Radio Paradise.
Thinkings and Feelings bubble up as this track evolves gorgeously onward, inward and upward to a meandering light of sensitive observation and softened tranquility. 9-10

It's the Philly band section of today's listening.

What's next...The Hooters?  Robert Hazard?  Todd Rundgren?  I'll just have to wait and see...
2nd time hearing this!! rated it a 9 before and it's still there! No worries about my mind changing on this one!!!
It's hard to believe that this song didn't exist when Radio Paradise was created. It is so radio paradise. Perfect song.
Hoping Santa will be adding this to my vinyl collection :)
Love the 'tinkly' piano/ keyboard melody at the end of this one. The War on Drugs have some gorgeous songs.
