Summertime, and the livin's easy
Bradley's on the microphone with Ras M.G.
All the people in the dance will agree
That we're well-qualified to represent the L.B.C.
Me, me and Louie, we gon' run to the party
And dance to the rhythm, it gets harder

Me and my girl, we got this relationship
I love her so bad, but she treats me like shit
On lock-down like a penitentiary
She spreads her lovin' all over
And when she gets home, there's none left for me

Summertime, and the livin's easy
Bradley's on the microphone with Ras M.G.
All the people in the dance will agree
That we're well-qualified to represent the L.B.C.
Me, me and Louie, we gon' run to the party
And dance to the rhythm, it gets harder

Oh, take this veil from off my eyes
My burning sun will, some day, rise
So, what am I gonna be doin' for a while?
Said, I'm gonna play with myself
Show them, now, we've come off the shelf

Summertime, and the livin's easy
Bradley's on the microphone with Ras M.G.
All the people in the dance will agree
That we're well-qualified to represent the L.B.C.
Me, me and Louie, we gon' run to the party
And dance to the rhythm, it gets harder

Evil, I've come to tell you that she's evil, most definitely
Evil, ornery, scandalous and evil, most definitely
The tension, it's getting hotter
I'd like to hold her head underwater

Summertime

Summertime, and the livin's easy
Bradley's on the microphone with Ras M.G.
All the people in the dance will agree
That we're well-qualified to represent the L.B.C.
Me, me and Louie, we gon' run to the party
And dance to the rhythm, it gets harder

Uh, well... <<< there's this >>>

Why feel guilty about it?  The run of albums she's released show that she's the real deal, not some manufactured popstress.
Lana is one of my guilty pleasures. Her music just calls to something deep inside of me.
She's got a voice and some talent. If she didn't sing like she was constipated this would be good.

Well, stay with what works is my philosophy. I understand that some believe she brings nothing to the table. But just fairly representing a Sublime song is impressive, no?

Haha--today Bill followed this with Janis Joplin's Summertime. <3
Ooooooohhhh lala, this tune oozes sexuality. Just love Lana Del Ray

Tell that to Jimi Hendrix.
10 - For real. Remake I know - but she kills this.

Erik Sumo also has done a good version using these lyrics partly.

I kinda get it - not a bad "cover", and LDR certainly is talented and has some good songs, but 4 times in 30 days?  I don´t want to start an argument, but maybe a discussion - I could do with less repetition.  I, presumably like many others of you, listen during a good part of the day while at work, and sometimes again in the evening.  That´s when I start to notice the repetition, and long for even more musical exploration...

This good song is from a fantastic album, Norman F-ing Rocwell is a Masterpiece. Dedicated to all the broken girl and boy from Kalifornia, it's like the ghosts of Denis Wilson and Warren Zevon singing with CSN'Y by the voice of Lana.

Thanks. Now I get it.
Summertime numerous covers
Best List:
Charlie Parker aka the bird man best saxophone version
Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald. Best old school
Janis Joplin Best Psychedelic
? still looking for best Tenor or bass male/female solo.

This year's Billie Eilish for RP?
Not a big Lana fan at all and a huge Sublime fan.  As much as I'd like to dismiss this song, it's actually pretty decent and I think her interpretation is good.   It's no 9, but listenable ya!

They'll be LOVING the royalties

You might want to have that looked at.
I feel like I should not like this, but . . . I don't know, I like it?
I simply cannot resist Lana's sultry voice and..oooh, that bass line begs to be cranked up.  Easy 8.
For some reason when this song starts up, I'm expecting a coke commercial.
WXRT in Chicago plays this song constantly and I'm Norman F***ing Rockwell sick of it!!
Bill likes Lana Del Rey so much more than I do.

You mean the 1968 original by Ella Fitzgerald?

OP seems to have asked for the original of this song from Sublime's 1996 album Sublime.
This is not a direct cover of Summertime, which has been covered hundreds of times, it's more of a re-interpratation...nonetheless, the original from Sublime or any other Sublime would be....Sublime.
LLRP!!

Or the 1934 even-more-original by George Geshwin? (ella's version is from 1958)

What he said.
Tired of this one, and in the middle of winter (in US)- the vibe is not working for me.....

Six months after I posted this I'm delighted to be proved wrong! 6.9 rating and mostly positive comments. Restores my faith in humanity.

Quelle voix !!!
Never been a LDR fan, but this is making me rethink that position.  It seems much more "authentic" than a lot of her work. Which is funny since it's a cover.
This song was voted as the best 2019 summer hit at the Danish public station for beat music - P6 Beat - a wonderful radio station, just like Radio Paradise and just like this song

I love Lana Del Ray.  But not this poor George Gershwin derivative.
Zombies also have a nice cover of Summertime.
 kazoo wrote:
So .. Is the album title dissing Norman Rockwell or what he might represent or is it praising him?

I think 'what he might represent' is the answer....from the Wiki article:

Jenn Pelly of Pitchfork wrote that the album "establishes [Del Rey] as one of America’s greatest living songwriters".[19] In his review for Rolling Stone, Rob Sheffield wrote that "the long-awaited Norman Fucking Rockwell is even more massive and majestic than everyone hoped it would be. Lana turns her fifth and finest album into a tour of sordid American dreams, going deep cover in all our nation's most twisted fantasies of glamour and danger."[17]

And boy, the critic reviews are pretty high on this one, and from what I've heard of the album here, they're right....this is one of the best covers I've heard (along with "Everywhere" by Roadkill Ghost Choir) and both courtesy of our musical goldsmith, BillG....Long Live RP and BnR's station!!
So .. Is the album title dissing Norman Rockwell or what he might represent or is it praising him?
it doesn't seem she is a real sublime fan or she would have changed some
lyrics or she isn't a real musician. the more i think about it the more
i don't like this cover. 8>7
Good example of taking a song and making it your own. The music video is pretty cool too.
holly chit, a sublime cover?  how weird.  big tanks.  {#Bananasplit}  and the next song  SUBLIME.
It's okay, and possibly introduces Sublime to new listeners, but doesn't come close to the feeling and groove of Sublime especially when you listen to the whole album.

Ahhhhh, Bradley, you moron.......you left us way too soon.
Is there a person behind this auto-tuned cool? Sometimes LDR sings with great emotion and urgency and you think she's going to break through this laid-back pose...but then the moment disappears.

It'd be interesting to hear Lana write and sing something that had some awkwardness or anger or open expression of emotion. Anything to break up the disaffected pose. She's got a nice voice AFAICT.

I'm right there with you!  She made it her own, felt the vibe (the LBC vibe for sure!) and I'd go +1 if it wasn't already a 9....Long Live RP!!
Sorry, but this cover just doesn't come close to Sublime's.  It's not horrible, but.....

Bradley, you moron, you left us too friggin' soon! Grrrrrr.......
Great song, that just get better and better - Doin' Time is a song by The Sublime 1997 - however the start is correctly taken from the original Summertime from Georg Gershwin from the opera Porgy and Bess

Well, there's a play out there called "Stupid F***ing Bird," an adaptation of Chekov's "The Seagull." And it's pretty awesome, in spite of the name. So if you can close your eyes and just listen, you might actually like the song.
one of my favorite covers in a long time.   this is fantastic.

I like this song well enough, but I think I've heard it 3 days in a row on RP now. I'm not used to that kind of repetition on RP. Any chance we can give it a rest for a few days?
