Still, by the window pane,
Pain, like the rain that's falling.
She waits in the air,
Matte Kudasai.
She sleeps in a chair
In her sad America.

When, when was the night so long,
Long, like the notes I'm sending.
She waits in the air,
Matte Kudasai.
She sleeps in a chair
In her sad America.

I was for sure this was Rufus Wainwright, and I thought I knew all his stuff but missed this. Lo and behold ...
Yeah, what the guy in that last post said.
Simply wonderful RP! Thank you!
Did anybody else think this was Rufus Wainright?

I asked my wife who she thought the artist was who was singing this song, ,and she said "kd Lang".  My first thought, too.  So-o-o . . . either we're both crazy, or there is a strong resemblance.  (i'm thinking a combination of the two.)

I can see that. Kinda. LOL.

Isn't this Adrian Belew on vocals and guitar? His guitar style is so distinctive...

Yes, Adrian Belew vocals. Belew and Robert Fripp on guitars.

Wow, now we know where Radio Head got their sound!!
What's astounding about this track is it's so out of place with respect to the decade.  This is music from 2010 that was being made in 1981.  These guys were really ahead of their time.
Before Mr. Belew began to sing, I was sure it was King Crimson, but when I heard his voice I went 'wha?'. But I was right the first time. This is lovely - not what I'd've expected from KC.

I pulled this album out a few months ago. What a weird, interesting album!
The Belew years are my favorite Crimson Era. Loved this song ~40 years ago and love it still.
Frame By Frame really does deserve to be on the RP list also. Similar vibe and equally compelling.
I wish Fripp would find a way to include Adrian in their latest tours.  Maybe a special appearance to play on some of the later material.

Thanks bill for playing something else besides court of the crimson king
EXCELLENT!!  I bought this album when it first came out. Then I saw them in concert during this tour.  Thanx RP!

I thought for sure it was a David Byrne collaboration with Bryan Eno I hadn't heard yet.  Sad, but nice.

And the tasteful and restrained drumming, too.

So glad to hear this here! The whole album is a beautiful 10!
Amen Bill - finally hearing this on RP! An incredible tune from a desert island disc IMHO (of course, there are a few more you could add to rotation (Frame by Frame, Elephant Talk?!)

Indeed!
The Red/Blue/Yellow Trilogy, if you will.

• 1981 - Discipline
• 1982 - Beat
• 1984 - Three of a Perfect Pair

Great stuff, although I'm still partial to the
Lark's Tongues / Starless / Red era.

Such a beautiful song! I thought that was Adrian Belew playing on this one not Fripp.  Certainly sounds like his style. Thanks Bill, ...Thanks for a beautiful addition.

It is AFAIK, and Fripp is playing the finger picked parts. This trilogy of albums is my favorite Crimson era.
This is very nice, reminded me of talking heads in a different universe. Thanks for playing another unkown  (to me) gem.
