Kinda like the really tight fitting slacks. Or the shorts that are "longs" hanging down past the rear end to the ankles.
Or the long hair always getting in the way. All too uncomfortable for me. Especially when I'm working.

For a good portion of my year, this is 'shoes':
So no socks just works better. Also, for this particular season 'pants' is just British slang for something bad, not something you would wear.

I love this topic. One that my wife and I are skilled at. There’s a station on Sirrus/ XM called “Road Trip Radio” that in my opinion, isn’t that great because they miss so many songs that would classify as good road trip music.

Carefree Highway. Gordon has been one of my favorites for many years. I realized I didn’t have a lot of his stuff on my playlist. And decided to hunt down some of my favorites from him. It was tough to do because there’s so many redo’s of his music out there. Trying to find the originals took some work. Thanks for including this one on your list.

Ride the Country. I know a lot of people don’t like Poco… but I like Poco. I always thought they were pretty innovative for that genre of Y’ Alternative music. What a lot of great talent they had in that band. Of course, it rotated in and out. This is a great cut. It definitely wasn’t a hit. But what was a "hit" for Poco? This is on my playlist.

Massachusetts. As Mr. Marty stated, the Bee Gees had some really good stuff out there before they got popular. I always thought it odd an English group would write something about a state of Massachusetts... but this is a classic. You know it wasn’t really played on the AM radio much back in the day. It’s funny. The 60's stations are starting to discover stuff they hardly played before.

Wildwood Blues. What is it with all those Todd Rundgren songs lately?
I’ve never heard this one before because as everyone knows here… not a fan the blues.

Mainline Florida. Very familiar with this one. I think this was Eric Clapton’s biggest hit album?  But it is a good song.

Dixie Miles. Yes to Steve Forbert. I’ve forgotten all about this song. I’m glad you included in this mix.

Tupelo. As with Lazy’s comment, I really like Jason Isbell’s music. Love his storytelling. Here’s one I need to add to my playlist.

Kansas City. Been there. Here’s a classic that I’ve heard many times. But I don’t get tired of it. First heard it on AM Radio from Los Angeles. Way back.

I Swear I Saw Christopher Reeves. Now we’re in Michigan! Been there. I never heard this before. But I do like Jill Solbue. What a great song!
Thanks to Jill for teaching us how to pronounce Mackinac. I did already know that. What about Sheboygan? I can hear Mr. Rogers now…” I like the way you say that.”

Woman Driving, Man Sleeping. Haven’t been there. This the opposite with Debbie and me. She’s usually sleeping when I’m driving. Which can be a good thing.
Always liked Eels. The song is on my playlist.

North Dakota. Been there. Hard to go wrong with Lyle. I don’t think I’ve ever heard this one before. Nice mellow one.

Portland, Oregon. Been there. Loretta and Jack. Who knew. Not a big fan of Jack. But this is very good because of Loretta. I need to add this one to my playlist. I do prefer The Replacements song “Portland” over this one a bit because Jack’s not “singing” on it.

California. Still there. Never heard this one. And thought I was an expert on California Songs. Nice add.

Reno. Been there. “Biggest Little City in the World”. This is new to me. Not bad.

Anchorage. Been there. On my playlist. The best song about Anchorage.

Running Back to Saskatoon. Not known to me. Really only familiar with their hits. Kinda blusey. Eh?

Kissin’ Time. They’re everywhere men. I don’t think so...

Safe Side. I’m with Marty on this one. James does good on this one. On my playlist.

Freeborn Man. Always liked The Outlaws.

Sonica USA. I’ve followed Alejandro for a long time now. From the Nuns, Rank and File, True Believers, Whiskeytown and his solo stuff. Great addition in your mix.

Quite a whirlwind trip here. One coast to the other, and even a Providence of Canada!
Good job!

Safe travels!

A few years back I shared with the group that I retired. When I pulled the plug on work life I went out and laid down some dough on an Airstream trailer. One of my goals in retirement life was to get out and see the country I live in. So after relocating last year and my wife pulling the plug on her career we are ready to embark on our first big trip next week. We are off to see the wizard in Oregon! The plan is to spend September and October tooling around that state and taking in what it has to offer. Some pit stops along the way include states I haven't been in, Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, Montana and Idaho. Just staying in those places for a few days to get a taste. And a highlight of the trip will be getting together with our esteemed mixologist Lazy 8!
So a mix of traveling tuneage with places to go was in order for my July effort. Hope you enjoy and maybe catch the traveling bug along the way!

Mix business note, I won't be able to listen and review to the Miami September and Mr LaQuinta October mixes till I return to the homestead in November. Send them anyway, Maria at the local Post Office will keep them safe and sound for me.

It will be my pleasure to personally hand you my next mix! Might even be able to show you some scenery if it's not too smoky.

This had a lot of familiar material on it, but I still found a few surprises, even from the artists I was familiar with. On to the mix highlights:
Carefree Highway—After a few decades to recover from childhood trauma (my sister had like 3 records, two of which were Gordon Lightfoot, and they got played a LOT) I have come to appreciate his music again. Dude could write a tune.
Massachusetts—The Bee Gees don't get the respect they deserve either as musicians or songwriters. Their later stardom overshadows their earlier work and this is a good example.
Dixie Miles—I think Steve Forbert was born old, but you can hear the years weighing on this tune. Very appropriate for this mix!
Tupelo—My affection for Mr. Isbell is,  I guess, well known in these parts, and I even own this album, but this still sounded fresh. Guess I need to put a few more turns on that disc!
I Swear I Saw Christopher Reeve—Wow, this one surprised me. I may have to explore her catalog some more.
Woman Driving, Man Sleeping—I went thru quite an Eels phase years ago, and this one prompted me to go revisit that catalog. Still love it. So thanks for the reminder! Love Mr. E's talent for turning a thin slice of life into a beautiful musical moment.
North Dakota—I need to introduce you to a Montana tradition: North Dakotian jokes. Nothing to do with the tune (which is fine!), just setting a reminder.
Portland, Oregon—Turns out Jack White was just what she needed. This one smokes.
California—Completely new to me, and a delight.
Reno—It's ironic to call a Jonathan Richman record "underrated"—Jonathan Richman records aren't rated at all. But this one is actually damned good, and you picked a really good example from it. Bravo!
Running Back to Saskatoon—Didn't think this group had any surprises left, but this was absolutely new to me and good fun.
Safe Side—McMurtry is a genius storyteller and an underrated guitarist. He has a real knack for capturing the detail of the lowlifes he chronicles. This is one of his best.
Sonica USA—Reminds me that I need to get more familiar with Mr. Escovedo. Thanks for the intro!
