It was about ACA subsidies and blocking the republicans, just as it was about blocking ACA and the democrats for the republicans.
(there is so much lack of understanding of what ACA was and has subsequently become, as a result of bad actions by both parties...which given the lack of transparency within our healthcare system, isnt such a surprise).
But you are partly right, it wasn't about providing affordable healthcare options - from either party - but about continuing to pay insurance companies for premiums that continue to spiral out of control. Then again, the current compromise is only a stopgap measure for the next three months. Perhaps the democrats can get their act together by then and stop arguing to continue to pay insurance companies more $.

And of course it was about the ACÃ, the dreaded horrible attempt at providing healthcare to the nation, that was so mind-blowingly terrible (who would give their citizens healthcare!?!?! Except the entire rest of the developed world). Trying to gaslight us doesnât work at all, really.
Trump and the jellyfish GOP were just trying to ruin something associated with a successful President, just like heâs ruining so many other things out of spite.

The White House was blindsided by the idea and is now dealing with a furious backlash from conservative allies, business leaders and lawmakers
Amusing to think that the Federal Housing Finance Director can cause such a $hitstorm by walking up to Drumpf and floating a dumb idea...while Donnie's aides stand by helplessly.
This is the same turd who goes around accusing Drumpf's enemies or targets of mortgage fraud—without evidence.

The problem stems from Conservative wanting something that was, so there's agreement on what that looks like. Progressives, though, all have different ideas and refuse to compromise and align, and so are easy pickings. They bicker about stuff amongst themselves because they have their personal hot buttons, and the GOP has figured out that they just need to hold their nose, put aside their morality perspectives, and vote as a bloc, just to get power.
Think about this, tho. If the Democrat party is playing chess (hopefully)
1) The âdefectorâ scapegoats donât face election recall, so they were chosen by Dem leadership to cast these votes as they were most protected from being voted out in November.
2) âHoliday travel and plane flights and paychecks returned for the winter? Youâre welcome. We couldnât bear to see you suffer, but Republicans wanted you to.â
3) At midterms weâll hear âwe ended the GOP tantrum; they were showing that theyâre willing to literally starve you.â
4) Later: âYour healthcare premiums went up, well, it was obviously the GOP intention that we warned you about.â
5) âYou donât like this? Vote Dem next time.â
