South Africa legalises cannabis use. Will the rest of Africa follow?
It’s now legal for South Africans to grow and use cannabis. The next battle — making it legal to trade. A continent is watching.

Ideally you have 3 to 4 strains to rotate so you don't build up a tolerance to a particular strain.

My Mom's cat was just put on CBD by the vet to calm him down in his old age.  He was getting really pushy and biting her if she didn't do what he wanted.  The CBD has slowed down that process.

Haven't heard any reliable info on exactly how and when it begins.  Prolly just in time for Christmas.

interesting! has your mom noticed any other reactions from the cat besides calming/not biting?

We are now legal (at the state level) for recreational in Ohio.  30 days after today's vote. 10% tax plus any local sales taxes, usually 8%.

The tax bite for $100.  100 + 10 plus the 8% on the 110 is 8.80.  $119

I guess that I will be soon visiting a dispensary for the first time ever and see what's up.  Yeah, Ohio is late to the party as usual so this is an old experience for most everyone else.

I haven't had to buy any for at least the last 20 years.  I'm hearing $300 for an oz.  or $360 cash.

Interesting.  Just stumbled on this.  Longish article, some of the highlights ...

What is THCP? A New & Uncommon Cannabinoid

The Takeaway: What is THCP?

THCP is a fascinating addition to the ever-expanding family of cannabinoids. While its high potency and potential benefits make it an interesting compound for researchers and cannabis enthusiasts, the lack of comprehensive studies and legal ambiguity warrant caution.

If you're considering trying THCP, remember to start slow, pay attention to how your body reacts, and always ensure that you're purchasing from a trusted source that can provide third-party lab results to prove its safety.

As with any cannabis product, staying updated with the latest research and legal changes is important. The world of cannabis is vast and continually evolving, and there's always something new to discover.

What Exactly is THCP?

Tetrahydrocannabiphorol, or THCP, is a rare cannabinoid discovered in 2019 when a team of researchers, using advanced liquid chromatography techniques, isolated the compound from the cannabis plant [1].

From a molecular perspective, THCP shares a striking similarity with delta-9 THC, the most famous cannabinoid for its wide-ranging therapeutic benefits and psychoactive effects.

However, where the THC molecule has a pentyl chain (five carbon atoms), THCP takes it up a notch with a heptyl chain containing seven carbon atoms. This might seem like a minor difference, but the shape of the cannabinoid significantly affects how THCP interacts with the human body.

Our bodies are equipped with a complex system known as the endocannabinoid system (ECS), which is key to maintaining overall balance (homeostasis) and well-being. The ECS responds to cannabinoids like delta-9 THC and THCP through its receptors, CB1 and CB2.

Thanks to its extended carbon chain, THCP is believed to bind with the CB1 receptor more strongly than THC, potentially resulting in more potent effects [2].

When it comes to its natural presence in the cannabis plant, THCP is a rare find.

It's present in trace amounts, often less than 1% of the plant's chemical composition.

Extracting and isolating THCP is a complex process due to its low concentration, so most THCP available on the market is not directly extracted from the plant. Instead, it's created in laboratories by transforming other naturally derived cannabinoids, like THC or CBD, into THCP through meticulous chemical processes.

GSC is a hybrid between OG Kush and Durban Poison?      I first smoked Durban Poison at a wedding ceremony deep in the Drakensberg mountains in Lesotho.   Deep means more than one day to hike out.   We ended up being guests of honour.  Between the millet beer and the Durban Poison, it was a crazy night with lots of dancing to kerosene lamps.  Good memories.

Actually Sativas take longer to bloom than Indicas as a general rule.   All the hybrids take longer than straight Indicas in my experience.

Also have grown and have on hand Master Kush and Lyndsey OG.  I sometimes mix some in with the Pink OG (Pink Kush).

Strong.  A small toke is enough.

Yep.  That is why it is good to have a variety on hand.

I call the Indica stupid stuff.  Sativa is good for a wake and bake so that you still feel like doing something later on in the day, if you're so inclined, maybe, possibly ...

Then there are the hybrids....      My current favourite is Pink OG.

Thanks kurt.  I never thought of using Canola oil.  The Mayo Clinic describes it as a healthy and safe choice when it comes to cooking oil.

In passing, I read somewhere recently that using cooking oils in a Wok at high heat can pose health risks.

Canola oil appears to have several advantages:  stays liquid at room temperature, health, cost.

Any thoughts on the choice between dairy butter and coconut butter for making cannabis edibles?

 they wrote back:

I've used dairy butter and canola oil.  I prefer the oil for the ease of doing it.  Butter is harder to do and requires a cooling off process to harden it so that you can remove it from the detritus that sits underneath after separation.  IIRC, water became part of the process so that the mix would remain in the water and the butter would separate and float on top.  We use it for making brownies.  Or you can just slurp down a spoonful or two.  Years ago, when I was going through my chemo, a former member here sent me some that was insanely potent.  He would just have a spoonful whenever he felt like it.  Made the whole thing really simple, since the edible buzz is different from smoking.

In the past, all the schmeg we had sitting around would go into the pot.  Now that we have become more organized, we're going to try single strains and see how that works.  I have six varieties to work with now and we have identified the different properties of some of them for specific purposes.  Indica is definitely good for pain, got two types and then then we have what is supposed to be strawberry diesel which actually helps breathing.  Some of you may or may not know that one of the pre refer madness medicinal uses was for asthma.  A doobie was call an asthma cigarette.
