17. Dialogue Pt. 1 & II...................Chicago

Wow. Sorry this took me forever to get this point. Work has been nuts. Things going on around the house. Trying to build a car. I was supposed to work today, but they missed an inspection! So I had some time to do this little job here. And I need to get this done before Miamizun's CD comes out!

"Natures Way"-  One of my favorite Spirit songs. I included this song on one of my first compilation eight track tapes.  And it's on my huge playlist collection now.
"We Ain't Got Nothing Yet"- Not bad. I prefer the original heard on a tiny, one speaker transistor radio.
"Love's Immortal Fire"- Makes me want to put a flower in my hair and dance around in a dress!
"Myopic Void"- Nice. I've never heard this before.
"Bugler"- My theory on life... Any music compilation that has the Byrds on it... is the best compilation ever!
"Night Creatures"- I always liked Be Bop Deluxe. I have all their LP's. Nice pick!
"I'm On the Run"- Nice. A pedal steel gets me every time.
"So Much Wrong"- Indeed. Not my favorite cut here.
"Flying"- Another nice one I've never heard before.
"Weather Girl"- Love thunder. This song...
"No Time to Lose"- I've heard this before... but it's been a long time. Nice reminder! Good song that's been lost to time. This will be my token steal for my playlist.
"Come Tumblin"- Never really cared for Grand Funk. Never really cared for the blues. But everyone here already knows that.
"The Joker"- Never heard this one before. Bluesy. Says it all for me.
"One Of These Days"- Good ol' Pink.
"Breadfan"- So, is this song about David Gates? No? I like Bread better.
"No Expectations"- Like the Stones original better. Like Son Volt's cover better.

"Dialogue Pt. 1 & II"- Love this one by Chicago. Horns and all. And I'm not that much of a horn guy.

Nice work Sir Droseph. And thanks for the time and work getting it out for us.

Ok I will go ahead and use this opportunity to disclose the easter egg sub theme.  Starting with that good guitar player in their lineup of First Gear, that would be none other than Jimmy Page.  Then on to In a Broken Dream which obviously was sung by a very young Rod Stewart.  And finally Flying which of course was written by Stewart along with his band mates, but that is a very young Elton John tickling the ivories.  So the theme is future superstars playing with other artist.  Surprised you favor the Faces version, imo Elton's piano takes this tune to another level.   Side note; Night Creatures did not sound like Bowie to me, it is the Van Der Graaf Generator song.  I am still not convinced that is not Bowie on the lead vocals!{#Eek}

It's crazy to think that this time capsule is from 50 plus years ago. Makes me feel old (and I'm probably the youngun in the group!). I've taken a trip in your time capsule twice now so I'm ready to take a look see on who was performing some of these lost (and not so lost) gems you have put in there.

* Coming back from a nice Vermont fall vacation the Supertramp song went down real easy and kept me in my good Vaca mood a few days longer
* I thought is was the SS Sorrow, like a ship. Pretty Things eh, don't know them much.
* I guessed Fairport Convention for track 8, Fotheringay pretty much the same band.

Thanks for the trip back in time to your younger days. I wonder what else you have in your capsule. I'm picturing a Yo-Yo and a collection of MAD magazines

First I gotta say: mission accomplished. This set really hit the mark, and reveals some of what we were missing on the other sides of all those records.

It probably helps that between my first and second listens I acquired a new (much better) set of headphones. The first time thru was akin to listening back in the day, either a low-fi record changer turntable or tinny AM radio speakers, the second time with audiophile gear, and I can see what the fuss is about. I kinda get why a lot of this was overlooked at the time; it really needs detail to shine.

Very little of this was familiar, making me wonder what other gems are waiting in the mine tailings.

Let It All Hang Out................The Hombres

Hey, I know this one! Don't think I ever really listened before tho.

2.  Sunday Morning.....................Margo Guryan

Margo who? Between listenings this really grew on me.

4.  You're Dead........................Norma Tanega

Um, groovy I guess.

7.  SF Sorrow..........................The Pretty Things

Who are these guys and what is this song about? And is that Graham Nash on guitar? No? Damn, this is interesting.

8.  Too Much of Nothing................Fotheringay

This one really got my attention. At first I thought "Huh, The Band and Jefferson Airplane had a bastard child with Fairport Convention" so I looked the song up and damned if it wasn't written by Bob Dylan and that's Sandy Denny singing backup and why have I never heard this before?

11. Standing In the Road...............Blackfoot Sue

This sounds so...modern. Kinda. 1972, you say?

Where the hell do you shop for records?

13. In A Broken Dream..................Python Lee Jackson

Did Portishead score a time machine and cut an album with Rod Stewart? I guess I actually had heard this, but never really paid attention.

17. April, Spring, Summer & Wednesday........Status Quo

As famous as these guys were in England they never made much impression here. That's a shame, this is good 'n' crunchy.

And that's enough for one night, I'll try and hit the next disk tomorrow or I'll hit the wrong button again and wreck all this typing!

Yes! I also like the deeper cuts... always have.
And as miamizun mentioned.... this is one of my favorite discs from you.
And what Lazy said... So many familiar voices, and yet so many tunes new to me!
As far as the "obvious segues" and "eggs"... I'll leave that to others who brains work better than mine.
Sorry it took me so long to get this down in words. An annoying work load seems to get in the way.

Disc 1

1. "Let It All Hang Out" . I always liked this song. And like pretty much all of these cuts... it's something you rarely hear anymore.
3. "Easy Does It". Listening to this disc without the playlist was a challenge for me. Trying to guess "who is that?" I did guess this was Supertramp. But I've never heard this one before.
Always recognize Roger Hodgson's voice.

5. "She's Got the Time" Wow! I haven't heard this one in a long time. And even then it wasn't around very long. Thanks for the memory jogger.

7. "SF Sorrow". Thanks for stealing one of my songs for my upcoming Psychedelic Songs mix.

8. "To Much of Nothing". A Dylan cover! Fairport Conventionary!

10. "Here I Go Again". I think I might have something to do with this one. I really like this one a lot. Just like a lot of your mix... Great Old Songs You Rarely Hear Anymore

11. "Standing In the Road" A familiar tune that I haven't heard in ages.

12. "Proper Stranger". Of course, I know this band. Not so much the song.

13. "In A Broken Dream". This song was almost a hit.

15. "Evil Woman". Dig them bongos!

16. "Seeds and Stems Again". Another bottom of the bag classic. Love the pedal steel. Nice tribute.

17. "April, Spring, Summer & Wednesday". This wasn't their hit for sure. Kinda sad and bluesy for me.

18. "House With No Door". Oh boy. Kinda dirgey for me.

19. "Dirty Sheets" 20. "TB Sheets" Well here's a connection. These songs wouldn't be considered Power Pop would they?

Will get to disc two review quickly... I hope.

Listened to both over the weekend and was impressed with the breadth of the sources. So many familiar voices, and yet so many tunes new to me!

I'll have another listen and try to get a more detailed reaction, but for now this is a fantastic exploration of deep cuts.

This mix was initially inspired by the Great songs you don't hear anymore thread.  I tried to assimilate old songs from what I consider to be the golden age of music to broadly encapsulate 66-81, but most are in the true meat of the period around 68-74 or so.  I attempted to choose songs that you have probably heard, but not since they were originally released basically songs you have not heard in over 40-50 years with the notion of transporting to that moment in time much like a Time Capsule.  There are also obvious segues by song topic and even artist names with an additional easter egg sub topic that I am going to let you guys try to guess.  Hint:  there are 4 songs in this category; 3 on the first disc and 1 one the second.  If no one guesses in say a week or so I will spill the beans.   Anyway hope you enjoy your journey to the Golden Age of Music{#Music}:

Then there is the issue of playback on any other device other than pc.  Maybe you can tell me, do mp3 players play m3u files?  Even then though for me digital kinda sucks the joy out of the creation.  Maybe that is just me, but it is me.

I get it. It is totally ok.
Playlist files like m3u (other file-formats for playlists exist) will be recognized by most mp3-players, I think.
