And I chop it down with the edge of my hand
Yeah
Well, I stand up next to a mountain
And I chop it down with the edge of my hand
Well, I pick up all the pieces and make an Island
Might even raise a little sand
Yeah
Cause I'm a voodoo child
Lord knows I'm a voodoo child baby
You better listen when I say
I didn't mean to take up all your sweet time
I'll give it right back to ya one of these days
Ha ha ha
I said I didn't mean to take up all your sweet time
I'll give it right back one of these days
Oh yeah
If I don't meet you no more in this world then uh
I'll meet ya on the next one
And don't be late
Don't be late
Cause I'm a voodoo child voodoo child
Lord knows I'm a voodoo child
Hey hey hey
I'm a voodoo child baby
I don't take no for an answer
Question no
Yeah
This guy was born Nov 27, 1942. Today, at this writing, it's June 7, 2021. Can you imagine? If he'd lived he'd be.....79 years old.
Probably just as well he didn't, because nobody sustains this sort of energy for long. Not nobody. It's a direct link to divine inspiration, and such linkages burn the mortal coil thru like a short circuit on a low amperage fuse. PFFFFFT and you are gone, baby gone.
But oh the brilliance while the arc lasts, eh? Such blinding brilliance that ripples out for so long as such mediums as Radio Paradise, the 'Net, and the enjoyment of pure rock-n-roll exists.
And so it goes for all of us still around on this planet, not yet ready to move on to the next.

Jimi was sent down by aliens to blow our minds for 5 years but they needed him back in cyberspace to continue his work there.
Only gave it a 10 cuz I can't give it an 11!
rookie! make another account and rate it again.. 20!
If you're ever in Seattle, do yourself a favor and go see Paul Allen's gift to the world, The Experience Music Project. They've got a Hendrix exhibit there that is unbelievable.
It's funny how the electric guitar has been around for the 42 years since Hendrix died, and about that long before. There is not now, never has been, and never will be his equal. Here's to the best axe man who ever lived.
"It's funny how the electric guitar has been around for the 42 years since Hendrix died ..."
What's pretty nuts is that the solid-body electric guitar had only been around for a couple decades at best when Hendrix took hold of it. There were few stomp boxes at the time, a Wah Wah, and the amp. The tones he got, folks still strive for such a sound.
I was 11 when I first heard this on Top of the Pops (BBC chart show) and I just couldn't believe what was happening on my television. Godlike indeed.
I'll bet your parents thought it was the soundtrack to Armageddon...

Permanent 10.

10 😁
That's all
how do you get back to where you was?
I still prefer Stevie Ray's version for a cleaner sound, but this one is simply the best for its raw vibe.
OK! ...I'll go for the "raw vibe"!!! Both are great!

Remakes are remakes, always.

A blazing hot 10.
One of a kind

I would have loved to live next to Jimi
And every time, it sounds better !
Fled from Interpol's "Rest My Chemistry" to this via PSD--from worst to first.

I think being 19 at the time this hit helps make it a 10.
I think being 16 at the time and real acid helped make it a 10.
Come to think of it, I didn't know that e=fþ. But I see your point. It really is a shame. I may be slow but I eventually know sarcasm when I see it.

yeah, well I was -3, and it still gets a 10!
Everybody has a right to there opinion - why should we ever assume that someone else hears the meaning we do (or doesn't hear what we do not)? I could care less what someone else thinks - if a song moves me to shake and scream like a madman or reduces me to naked emotion and stirs me as deeply as I can imagine anything ever would (as this song always does no matter how many times I hear it) - or both, I like it no less if someone else doesn't feel any of that. It doesn't change a thing for me. I'm going to react the very same way the next time I hear it.
lololol, although the spread is wide: a few folks really don't like it but not many, and most of us REALLY like it.
You're effing clueless...you probably don't get Beethoven either...

What's that? I can't hear you. I've got the volume turned way up...
Effing sweet sounds....

Yes indeed. Amazing, amazing effing noise...
The whole album sounds best though headphones or a really good stereo with good speaker placement.
Nope, 59% of RP listeners give it a 10. I have noticed women tend to not like Hendrix as much as men for some reason.

I started by thinking "what songs are as good as Penny Lane?" and realized that my "10" distribution would be mighty damn small.
For me, it's "Gimme Shelter."

This song is soooo good for the ears...
Oh yes, absolutly agree :)
It's not a type of hot pepper, if that is what you're thinking.

My sentiments exactly. I hear he played excellent, but he didn't play anything I like.actually, this is more of a song your FEEL! time to fire up the old synapses! nurse! get the poor man a doobie! STAT
Thank you! There are those among us who have clearly been touched by the hand of God, and have thus become immortal. Some have one immortal song, others an album, still others have a span of time, and then there are the true immortals, the true one-offs who have a career and a legacy that continues unabated....Coltrane, Beatles, Davis, and Mr James Hendrix...we are the better, and more inspired for their efforts.

Give her time, I'm sure she'll come around at some point.
10 !!!
The opening couple seconds of WhaaaWhaaa sounds just like my cat when she vomits.
Really.
pretty talented puss ya got there...
and oh yeah...go O's! I'll drop a rope if you promise to climb up out of that dank basement you're living in.
RespekPut her up for adoption.
Just some dude who invented some early rock guitar techniques. If he hadn't have died spectacularly and young, you'd never have heard of him at all.

let's never forget to raise a little sand
